Hush Puppies and honey?

I'm a northerner visiting the south (southern Maryland, that is). Anyway, I ordered hush puppies with my rockfish sandwich. The waitress asked me if I wanted honey with it.
I never heard of that, using honey with it, but it was delicious. The closest I'd had is honey on sopapillas in New Mexico.

So is honey w/hp a regional thing?

I'd think it would depend on the HP recipe.
A HP made with onions or spicy seasonings or Jalapeno's or green peppers etc wouldn't taste so good. HP's made with sugar added or cinnamon would be great. I've not seen or heard of putting honey on HP's.
It would help with a simple cornbread HP.

I was crunchy cornmeal with onions/spicy seasons/some herbs. But try it, they honey was good, esp. with the crunch.
It was funny tho, the waitress asked me about honey as if this is the way everyone eats it!

When I've seen honey served with hushpuppies here in North Carolina, the hushpuppies were pretty simple - no cheese, jalapenos - maybe a little onion in the batter, but that was it. One BBQ restaurant (now closed) offered honey butter in a tub with their basket of hushpuppies - delicious!

Not honey butter, mind you, honey right out of the plastic bear!

Now what about fried chicken drizzled with honey (from the plastic bear?)?

It was the Colonel years ago that got us into adding honey to our biscuits or rolls when having fried chicken.  Now we do it every time, no matter where the chicken is from.

I think honey could work well on quite a few types of hush puppy..
