I hate Hydrox. When I was a kid everyone I knew got to eat Oreos. My mother wouldn't buy anything but Hydrox. A pox on Hydrox!

If the people are going to raise their collective voice to bring back a product, it should be something better than the poor man's oreo.

I don't know how much of this is true, but I read it somewhere.

Hydrox were around long before Oreos. Hydrox, like all treats at that time, were designed to appeal to adult’s tastes. That was because only adults had money and made all purchases.

Oreos were copied after Hydrox, but their manufacturer had what was a radical idea at the time to design a product specifically to appeal to children’s tastes. Supposedly, that is why they are softer and sweeter.

My wife and I were just discussing this tonight. She remembers the filling in Hydrox being firmer and I remember the cookie being less sweet. We each had our separate reasons for preferring Hydrox and cannot wait for their return.

I know I haven't really been seeing Hydrox lately, but then I haven't been looking. I thought I still did see other Sunshine products. And I know others make the Vanilla Wafers that are not Nabisco's.

I myself never tasted any real difference between Hydrox and Oreos. But I did know that like Drakes, The Sunshine stuff was all vegetable shortening, and in the 80's, just about all the Nabisco still had lard. (Like Hostess and Dolly, which now still have beef in most products). That's why Hostess seems to go so well with Nabisco. Both are the more popular line of products. So you would think Kraft (who owns Nabisco) would buy out Hostess. It would go well with the rest of their household name brands.

I never even knew about Droxies. Or maybe I forgot. At one point Flowers bought out Keebler, but that did not last too long. So now, Kelloggs owns it?

PLB is right. Hydrox was an ADULT cookie, with a taste more cocoa than chocolate and with a less sweet filling that Oreo's vanilla-flavored lard.
Unfortunately Oreo went with the philosophy espoused by the Vatican, the Nazis, and MacDonald's, "Give me the children and I'll give you the next thousand years." Hydrox consumers, being adults, got old and died. Oreo consumers, being children, grew up indoctrinated into buying only Oreos and passed this on to their children.
I look forward to buying a stash of Hydrox!

Oreos and Hydrox were made with lard-thus the flavor. And the texture. You will not find the same flavor shall you buy them. Anyway, glad to see the Hydrox is back(??????)

Hydrox were never made with lard. Oreos at one time were.

From the Hydrox Cookie History site:

    "1980s – A favorite for Jewish children.
Lard-free Hydrox cookies have always been kosher dairy certified."

I too grew up in a Kosher home, hence Hydrox. I recall as well that Hydrox were less sweet and honestly find oreos to be a bit over the top at times. As to those of you who are Hydrox loathers, well variety is the spice of life, right? No reason to condemn a mere cookie to death if YOU don't happen to care for it :)

Frankly the notion that so many of you were eating lard cookies, has me personally feeling QUITE queasy, but.. if that's what you like, enjoy!
