I Enjoy Watching FF Restaurants Compete So Harshly

Like when every single one you can think of practically jam packs the land near an Interstate Huighway exit or they all open back to back along a route or at a intersection. I sort of enjoy seeing them do that because like Suburbs they're doing nothing but killing each other like Mad Dogs in a Large Kennel.

In many cases (locations) the multiple stores reflect the results of the same traffic-flow and car-counts and population demographics information being obtained by the various FF business's. It may look odd, but there is more money in a freeway interchange with 6 FF stands, than one stand out on a country road. The deciding factor is the volume of potential customers !!

I agree with Al. Hubs used to be a district manager with 7-11 stores. On of the things they considered when scouting a new location was its distance from a supermarket. Seems convenience stores do more volume if they are within half a mile of a big grocery.

In addition, it is amazing how they compete for the children. McD's, Wendy's Chick Fil and others have play grounds where the grandboys want to go regardless of the taste of the food and they seem to like what they have. They seem to group just like the auto dealers do. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Actually it is beneficial that they gang up like that. More people will stop at an intersection on the freeway or go to an area with many choices than to a standalone restaurant. In doing so they also cast a wider net for how far someone will travel to the destination. They all get their fair share of business.

I'm not in the fastfood business but my understanding is some companies (like burger king) will build near a mcdonalds simply because it saves them money. they know mcdonalds has already done the research (traffic count etc) on that location and deemed it a viable location for a store.

What does paying taxes have to do with it??? The government that collects those taxes is not investing them in a business to be built in your neighborhood. By the way, you do have a say, do not go there.

If you left it up to most communities to decide who gets in and who doesn't you would end up with nothing and still be waiting for that first yuppie boutique bistro. Restaurant corporations all do their own research but the results end up closely the same. That is one reason they gang up as well as the synergy I mentioned a few messages above. That is also why you see food courts in shopping malls. The more the merrier to attract a larger crowd. Developers know this. That's why you see so many restaurants ganged together. They want the wider draw. The restaurant that locates away becomes isolated and could also be indicative of a bad location. If you are not getting the restaurants you desire in your community it is because your deficient in the research - income, population, lifestyle, ease of access, other draw amenities, etc. Is that bad? Not necessarily. We are talking chains here that will eventually drive out that independent road food gem we like so much here.

well John on the taxes thing we pay the salaries of the ones on the zoning board through taxes...thats how they get paid...shouldn't thier be a rule like hey you got a mcdonalds right up the street why do you need another here....sorry this spot is for another establishment.cause thats OVER SATURATION and yea the vote on it wouldn't work who's gonna vote? but let someone else in the door and if patrons don't like it they'll go under in a year and someone else could have a shot at it....that was my point....and here is a few searches i did in my area just to prove over saturation http://foodio54.com/restaurants/Hagerstown_MD/10/0/all:McDonalds there is 2 more to add to this one is inside walmart 1674 and one at the food court in valley mall....the only thing i can figure why these 2 are not included is because they reside inside some other company's building. http://foodio54.com/restaurants/Hagerstown_MD/25/0/all:McDonalds and this one blowed me away 22 plus the 2 not listed. 24 within 25 miles... thats to many mcdonalds...and i probally grab a sandwhich every 2 months at 1 not cause i was craving it just for substance they do have good coffee but reson i chose mcd's they are everywhere. ron
