I HATE CHEESE!!!

It's a tough life when cheese is your nemesis. It seems like everything has cheese on it or in it, it is a daily battle to avoid the cheese. It's not that I'm lactose intolerant I just can't stand the taste or smell of cheese. Now the odd thing is that I do like pizza and cheesecake a lot. It's is the only cheese I'll eat. I know there are more like me out there, so c'mon all you cheese haters rise up and be heard.

My dad doesn't like cheese. He'll choke down some mild swiss or provolone to be polite but will otherwise avoid it at all costs. He doesn't eat pizza either on account of his dislike for cheese. I must have inhereted some of this from him because I do not like sharp or moldy cheeses(e.g. blue, roquefort, etc) myself. But I love the mild stuff, mozzarella and provolone being my personal favorites.

Could I offer you something from the Cheese tray??

I lived in Germany for a number of years, and I like cheese, but they have some stuff over there that'll make your eyes water! I do not know how they can eat the stuff. It truly smells like an old dirty sock/shoe, or worse!

But hey, how about a nice piece of Wensleydale, Gromit ????

I like certain cheeses cooked into or on some things but won't eat cheese raw.

Oddly enough, I like cheeses like extra sharp cheddar, tilsit and feta, but won't go near milder, creamy tasting varieties like swiss and jack. Go figyuh.

Anyone have a great Pimento Cheese recipe for Amos? I bet you'll love that.

The worlds favorite cheese continues to be the classic American Cheese.

my mom tells me I would throw cheese off my high chair tray as a toddler.... never cared for the stuff, but I always like pizza ok. I think it's because mozzerella is so mild. I am *slowly* (now that I'm getting near my '40s) developing a tolerance for *melted* cheese in casseroles (like lasagna), tacos, etc. I can put up with it on a burger, but it's not my preference.

And yes, it has been a major inconvenience to me as well as those who have cooked for me!

To me, cheese is Gods gift to man! For the most part, it's pretty much organic, not to mention the different levels that can be achieved with a little bacteria and aging. Only problem I have is American Cheese. Processed crap loaded with oil. YUK.

    Quote from Wikipedia:
Today's American cheese is generally no longer made from a blend of cheeses, but instead is manufactured from a set of ingredients which meets the legal definition of cheese and includes "whey protein concentrates" regularly imported from other countries.

My late grandmother came to the house one time years, and as she was there for the visit she opened the fridge and found "moldy" cheese, she threw it out.

She threw away a beautiful aged roquefort, I didn't have the heart to tell her what she threw away.

I love most cheeses, there are a few that make my stomach churn, but not many.

early cheese memory. alone at the table, having picked the slice of american "cheese" from my sandwich. what to do with this strange substance? mom tells me to finish my food but I begin to break up the cheese into perfect squares and build a tower on my plate. try it, makes a wonderful material for craft projects...probably won't spoil as it's not FOOD.
today I indulge with discretion. modest amounts for this mouse.

    Mr. Sausage:
I feel the same way you do...American cheese, whether yellow, orange, wrapped in plastic, sliced from a block in the deli...it doesn't matter if it is Kraft singles or the higher priced deli counter stuff...it all tastes like a sticky, gummy mass to me. I cannot eat the stuff.
But as for any other cheese, bring it on! For me, the riper, the better! I miss the raw milk cheeses that I ate in France, that we can't import in this country, due to health regs. Incredibly powerful tastes...pretty indescribable.
Cheese, like everything else, I guess, is to each his or her own, in terms of taste.

Amos, and this is all in fun... But seriously, cheese is nothing more then cultured bacteria. Have you ever smelled an aged steak before cooking? (bacteria doing its job tenderizing the meat). Or should I say a decent glass of wine? Alot of grapes depend on the various fungus growing bacterias also! (same goes with good sourdough bread). To each their own, but your already eating the stuff without knowing it. Maybe you just don't like dairy products?

The smelly cheeses are never as strong on the palate as they would seem. If you can get past the initial shock of that curious perfume, there is a world of delight awaiting you.
I seek out American raw milk cheeses, generally. The pasteurized ones seem neutered and dead.
The whole idea of cheese is, I guess, a little weird...the liquid from a ruminants' teat, treated with the enzyme procured from the young ones' stomach...sometimes aged for years...Those of us that love it are hopelessly addicted. Those that find it repugnant? I would ask -do you eat meat? That rare steak is pooling blood on your dinner plate...Your burger/hot dog/sausage probably contain pieces of the animal that would seem far from edible. I understand likes and dislikes ( I don't enjoy liver or wild rice etc.) but if it is a food fear from childhood that is preventing you from trying new things I invite you to experiment. Life is short.

I wish more people didn't like cheese; that way there'd be more for the rest of us.

I have one daughter that won't eat cheese, yet after scraping it off a piece of pizza she'll then proceed to smother the crust with prepackaged grated cheese topping. Go figure.

I guess there is no accounting for the tastes of individuals. My daughter, (now twenty -two) will not eat the crust off of bread. She will however eat liver, oysters, calamarie... My wife, the lovely Laura, will not eat ANYTHING with dill in it. In fact she will not eat anything that has been pickled. No saurkraut, no dills, no gerkins; nothing! Both will eat cheese in any formulation. Old and hard or new and runny. Which brings me to me. I will eat almost anything, sea urchin is out and so is goat cheese and yogurt. But vegatables; from beets to turnips and anything in between. My favorite meal was sweetbreads at Craft in NYC.

How could you not like cheese? I guess it is because you don't.

After being so prosaic I would suggets just a simple grilled cheese sandwich or a macaroni and cheese just to get you started. Use mild cheese, maybe a monteray or a munester and see how it goes. If you can drink milk or love whipped cream you can appreciate cheese.

    Best to all,

    BB

PS. My Dad and my favorite Uncle would make Limburger and onion sandwiches all the time. They asked me if I would like a taste. I said yes and I love them to this day. Sometimes food and the experience of eating can be powerfully evocative.
