I debated between Salmon or Tuna

My lunch was going to consist of either a salmon or a tuna sandwich.
By next concern was just how to go about making it. After opening a can, should I have it plain, as is, or mix it with onion, Mayo, or Miraclewhip.
 
What would you do to liven up a luncheon sandwich?

    Tuna with mayo, I add dill and granulated garlic.

    Chopped celery, EVOO and a splash of balsamic vinegar.  If your feeling a little irregular, and some white beans.

    Don't care for the taste of Canned Salmon.
    Tuna, Mayo, Cajun Seasoning, Finely Chopped Celery. Sometimes add capers

    Albacore Tuna, water drained from can. White Bread, Chopped Onion and a (very) little sweet relish added to the Mayo and Tuna. Toast the bread if convenient, Two sandwiches and a handful of ripple chips with a Vernors will do nicely, Please.
    I like Salmon grilled, or with crabmeat stuffing (a Costco Item), but was ruined on the canned stuff being smushed into "Salmon Patties" for too many Friday Night suppers as a kid. Won't eat canned Salmon today as a result of that.

    I really like the idea of ripple chips on a sandwich, who would have ever thought of that tip. Then, who would have thought of beans....are you kidding me. I use Wonder bread's Texas Toast. A little chopped celery sounds good also. I have a question- why Mayo over Miracle Whip? Miracle Whip seems to have more flavor, mayo more bland.

    Mayonnaise, a small amount of minced onion and fresh white bread.  Never Miracle Whip!

    My go to tuna salad is mayo, onion, celery and a bit of dill pickle chopped in it.Mayo over Miracle Whip, I think, is just a matter of taste....

    Absolutely, Rusty-my husband wont eat boiled egg, but when I make tuna for myself and I have one, the egg certainly goes in there!!

    I usually reserve the salmon from when I have some "use it or lose it" onion; the "canned fish" taste of the salmon and the extra-sharp taste of the onion seem to cancel each other out, so each tastes much better.

    Number one rule is fresh bread.
    Red salmon over pink. Tuna sandwich preference is toasted.
    Such silly little eating rules we adopt.

    Tuna: must be albacore. Mixed with Hellman's mayo only. Sprinkle a few shakes of Worcestershire sauce on.
     
    Everythng else, including the bread, is negotiable.
     
    You can add minced onion, garlic powder, chopped water chestnuts (I hate celery), or chopped green olives. Or all of the above. Tastes best on soft seedless rye with a piece of extra sharp cheddar.

    The only time I would use Miracle Whip in the above is if I don't have any "goodies" to put in. But even then, I would probably just use Hellman's + Lea & Perrins.

    For salmon: A can of boneless, skinless salmon, rinsed to remove some of the sodium.
     
    Because salmon tastes different, sometimes I add plain yogurt. It's lighter than mayo but still give you that creamy texture you want. I always add onion & dill. Garlic can ruin a good salmon salad for me, believe it or not.
     
    I don't usually put this on bread, I usually spoon it onto loso Triscuits.

    Tuna: Trader Joe's has tongol tuna (I get no added salt, in water), which has the omega-3 levels of chunk light, but a flavor closer to solid white. And, frankly, it's more solid than a lot of "name brand" solid white tuna I've had in recent years.

    My cat loves tuna juice but won't eat salmon juice.
    So, I probably eat more tuna than salmon.
    I remember tuna burgers when the kids were growing up. Haven't had one of those in years.

    My favorite has been.........White tuna, mayo or Miracle Whip, pepper, Ols Bay seasoning on good rye bread, with a slice of tomato and onion.  A cup of tomato soup is not bad to have as well or any good soup.  Dunking allowed!!!!

    For some strange reason I prefer the tuna salad served in many restaurants to anything I can whip up at home.  I think they buy it pre-made (maybe from some giant outfit like Sysco) since so much of it tastes the same.  But, as a result, when I feel like a tuna salad sandwich, which is often, I usually go to a "diner or dive" for it.
     
    Regardless, the bread is toasted white.

    The best tuna salad sandwich I ever ate was at a deli in Pennsylvania: tuna salad (just tuna and mayo); a slice of provolone; and a thick slice of sweet onion. Mayo on the bun, crisp lettuce. You could grill this one, too, on bread. Another good one I had was tuna salad, crisp crumbled bacon, and American cheese, grilled on rye bread. Mmm!
