I hate going to the doctor's office and getting sick from the Waiting room!

I have been fine the last few weeks while everyone around has fallen to the flu and other dreaded communicable diseaeses spread this time of year.

I went to the Dr's office Tuesday afternoon, and the waiting room was full of snot nosed brats spreading their disease.

Wednesday, I woke up my nose plugged and coughing and hacking and wheezing.
Spent the last few days coughing and hacking.

Feeling better today (spent the day with Santa & Mrs Claus) taking pictures of kids with them.
As of tonight I have taken (in the past 20 years) over 20,000 photos of kids with santa.

MY FINGER HURTS!!!

Symptoms don't appear that quickly unless you already had a latent infection that's been incubating. Play it smart whenever you go to the Dr.'s office and take a small bottle of hand cleanser/disinfectant and use it continuously while you're there. While you can't wear a mask socially, try to stay well away from anyone coughing or sneezing. The aerosol mist is what gets you. One little trick we use is to sign in, leave your cell phone number with the receptionist, tell them your on the premises, and get the h out of the waiting room if there's a lot of coughing and sneezing people. Let them call you when you're up.

I would ask if they couldn't put masks and a sign at the clinic entrance asking that everyone wear a mask if they have signs of the flu or a cold and ask that they police that policy.

I always go to my MD early AM usually at 8:00AM.  So far I have never contracted any issues.  Perhaps Canadian is anti viral and bacterial???

When our boys were young, the pediatrician's waiting room had a "well side" and an "ill side".  It seems like that it would be a good idea for family practice physicians.

Maybe so, never tried, but I KNOW Vodka, any kind, is highly effective when taken with a Vitamin C, as in Orange Juice.

I don't remember the last time I was at at doctor's office or hospital waiting room that didn't provide masks and hand sanitizer near the entrance. Even places that shouldn't necessarily have actual sick people, like physical therapy offices (although they usually don't have masks, just hand sanitizer).

I spend a good deal of my time now in emergency rooms and dr's offices with my dad. Never once have I seen masks or gloves available to the patients or in common areas. Hand sanitizer dispensers are often only just immediately outside or inside the examination rooms and treatment areas and not in the common areas or waiting rooms. Same thing goes for drug stores. It's common sense that most of the people picking up or submitting a prescription or either the patients themselves or realtives that have been exposed. The waiting line/area is usually full of coughing or sneezing people that show obvious symptoms of respiratory infections at certain times of the year. Yet, even though they have significant stock of hand sanitizers in the isles, you would think that as a public service they would make a pump bottle available to waiting customers or at the order desk. While most medical personell appear to use gloves and hand sanitizers liberally as a precaution for their patients, that behavior doesn't seem to be encouraged in patients/visitors with the same resources being made available to them.

Now that airports have gotten around to cellphone lots, maybe Doctors office could do that too.  Then at least you might only have to wait 4-5 mins and see one or 2 other folks.  Of course, probably only works in strip-mall type locations, but if you're in a high-rise place or a hospital, already you've been exposed to way too much

Just so you know - one of the many ways the Brits ration their "socialized" medicine is by increasing wait times both for getting appointments and waiting room time on your "lucky" day.

Could be any worse here? With most primary care physicians we've worked with, it's typically a month to 6 weeks although most have policies of walk in urgent care. Either way, you're talking a 3 hours wait time. Specialists are worse. Many I need to book sometimes 3 months ahead for my dad and the wait between the waiting room and exam room is also several hours. I can't do it taking a half day off, it has to be a complete day....oh and Dr's complain that patients bail last minute? I can't tell you how many times we've either got a call last minute that the Dr. won't be available and to reschedule or we're at the office waiting for hours and the intake nurse or receptionist announces to the waiting room that the Dr. had an emergency and had to leave.

That wait time is why I make my appointments for first one in the AM. I rarely have to wait more than 15 minutes.
