Would McDonald's be sued for their obvious rip-off of the Big Boy sandwich if they tried it today?
Jim

No. food doesn't get intellectual property protection.  Starbuck's can roll out a new frappucino flavor. That can't stop Dunkin Donuts from making a similar flavored coffee ice cream drink to compete.

Thanks for the info.  I was thinking more about the name, Big Boy vs. Mac.  I don't think McDonald's could call their new beverage a McFrappucino without being challenged.  Maybe Big Boy didn't TM the sandwich name.

Patty Melt
Melted Swiss cheese and American cheese and grilled onion on grilled rye bread.

Michael, any place that still has a Patty Melt on the menu is ok in my book.

I saw that too, PNWCHEF.( I of course had to google Big Boy after all this discussion) They used to serve excellent patty melts, probably the first place I ever had one.

Hi Ann, I tried putting a patty melt as a special Sandwich on our Cafe menu, no one knew what it was. I need to rename this oldie but goodie grilled sandwich for the young whipper snapper generation..............any ideas for a new name ?????????????

Good one, ctf!!! I dont know what kind of establishment you have, which may help me in thinking of a name. When I ran a full service deli( from fresh breakfast thru dinner) I named an egg sandwich after myself-an egg McPeeples
I sold a ton of them-so have you thought of naming the patty melt after yourself or a family member, or a fond memory of a location you ate one? Just some thoughts!

On sourdough bread, Hardee's call them Frisco burgers and Steak n Shake call them Frisco melts.  Maybe you could call yours Olympic burgers or something like that.

About the only thing McD's is good for is a bathroom stop. The quality of all the food items is approaching bottom of the barrell. It used to be ok, now inedible.

Ah, McDonald's coffee. A large coffee from McDonald's is an almost daily treat for me.

I didn't know they had bathrooms, but I guess that would be standard. Isn't it nice that they allow folks who would never pay anything to keep them in business to use their rest rooms at no charge.

I too frequent FF Restrooms in dire emergencies.
FF Restroom Clean-O-Meter:
(Possible 10 Pts)
Jack in the Box - 10
 MeDonalds - 8
Booger King - 6
Wendy's - 5

I cannot believe that someone would go into a restaurant   (even  a fast food place)   just to  use the restrooms.   That is really sad ;  use their  restrooms and then complain about their food which you have not even purchased.

They make enough money as it is. I use McD's for the bathrooms only. While once the food was ok, now it all is held in warming bins before being assembled. A better use of McD's food would be for bio-fuel and not human consumption

Take it from a frequent highwayman.  If there isn't a rest stop with public restrooms, you dive into a FF joint(Mickie Dee's RR is preferred).  I always buy a coffee or a bottle of water on my way out.  I would buy food.....if it didn't suck
