I just realized...

I've been a member here for over ten years. WOW! I didn't realize.

I remember my first meet n eat at a place in Baltimore for crab cakes, the name eludes me. Janet and Mayor Al was there, all the way from Indiana. Picky Peggy and Ava came along with me. There were 30 some ppl there that day, we had a blast!

There have been a lot of ppl come n go here. Some were run off by others, some were ran out on a rail. A couple of those have been let back into the family. We've lost several to the Grim Reaper. Good ppl like Bushie and too many others, including my cousin Dickie aka BikeWriter and my wife Picky Peggy. May they all R.I.P.

A lot of changes here in my 10 years, not all good. I miss a lot of the ppl that used to post here but they have traveled to other sites. Heck I don't join in like I used to. Too many other things going on.

Here's looking forward to another 10 years, God willing!

Boy, Mike I didn't think about it until you mentioned it. And lo and behold, I actually am senior to you by one month. I think this calls for us to share another round of Chinese food and adult beverages!

I've been her for 10 years too.  Met a lot of wonderful people, made a lot of friends.  Ate a lot of good food and looked at a lot of pictures that made me wish I had it on my plate NOW.  Stick around, Mike!  I need another oyster slurpin' pal besides Al!

I believe the Mayor and I are approaching 13 years?  Time really flies.  When I first starting posting, high speed internet was not available in my neighborhood and like MikeS, I have seen a lot of folks come and go.  The site has evolutionized and in my opinion got much better.  We have been irritated with numerous spammers and a few very irritating posters but as time moved on, so did they.  For the most part, the posting community is very well behaved and that keeps down stress with all posters.
Happy Holidays to all my Roadfood friends.

This post made me check my own credentials and what do you know, my 10th is coming up in February.  I don't actually recall deciding to join Roadfood although I've been a fan since the first Roadfood book.

I also don't recall what my first post was, probably something inane like most of my other 1523 posts to date. Is there any way to find one's first Roadfood post?

I guess I could check internet archive for around the date when I joined, but I was wondering if there is any way to do it within the Roadfood Forum site itself.

10 years ago I was sitting up in the dark, frozen, snowy tundra of Alaska when one of my sled dogs said, "You should get on Roadfood."  So I scrapped my plans of running the Iditarod and became a Roadfooder.  Best thing that darn dog ever did.

    Mike,
To show my age, I don't remember the name of the place we met in B-more either. It was just down the street from G&M Seafood that was closed due to a fire or somethng... It was a hot day and we did have a good crowd there that day... That was the day of the famous I-95 checkered shirt  photo !  But here is a group shot from that day. (2006)

We have enjoyed our participation on the Roadfood site, even as we slow down a bit and find our travel curtailed a bit  recently...We have found many long-term friends here...Thanks to all of you for helping make this a friendly place to meet !

I do recall my early time on the site costing quite a bit...AOL charged by the hour back in those days !!

Someone can, no doubt, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 2003 was the introduction of the discussion forum software - in something of its current form. It eased the way for more people to become members and contribute. It may explain the proliferation of new members circa 2003.

I've been trying to remember how I ended up here...I think it must've had something to do with Uncle Vic (is he even still around?), although we'd long since broken up by the time I joined here. I'll have to search for my first post to see what it was, that might give me a clue.
