I know that we have some music fans here.....

Over the weekend, I rented "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus", and really enjoyed it. It was made in 1968, but only recently released. Besides the Stones, they had Jethro Tull, a pre Tommy "Who", Taj Mahal, The Dirty Mac, perhaps the most talented band to never have a hit, and Marianne Faithfull, who was probably there for the same reason as Yoko Ono.....girlfriend.

The show itself is only an hour and 5 minutes, but I suggest that you take the time to watch the updated extras too.

The Story was always that the Who's performance so overshadowed that of the Hosts that the Stones would never release it.
Marianne Faithfull's later Albums-Broken English etc. - were very good.

That performance was amazing, and I, too am a fan of the Faithfull rendition of "As tears go by", but I don't think that she picked the best song for this performance. In his present day interview, Mr Townshend remembers being amazed that The Rolling Stones had so much creative control as to be able to kill such an expensive project. I could also tell that after all these years, he was still pained over the loss of two of the performers just days after filming was done.

I must have misunderstood, because in looking it up, Keith Moon (Who)didn't die untill 7 sep 78, and Brian Jones (Stones) didn't die untill July 3, 1969. The closeups in the film for the Stones are of Jagger, Jones,Richards and Watts. There was a 5th (I think) Rolling stone in the background (Bill Wyman?) as well as several helping session musicians. In any case, I am no expert, and I just wanted you to know about a DVD that I enjoyed, much as I have mentioned some nice places to eat.

I’m huge fan of The Who and have assembled several signed and framed mementos along the way. I also have enjoyed Pete Townshend’s solo albums. I’m a bit of a piano player and have recently gotten the home recording bug. I’m right in the process of putting together a little folk/rock trio. I will shamelessly plug our web site: http://www.myspace.com/fellows3trio There is a demo song on there that we are still working on, the vocals will be redone and some guitar parts added, so don’t be to critical please, work in progress! Hoping to have a complete CD done with in 2 months.

It didn't work for me, but I have gotten the site (not your part)to work as recently as today. Maybe it is time to do a virus scan and re boot. My daughter's former band "Raising Kubrick" still has a site there. RK did 2 "professional" CDs as well as some home "demos". I am amazed at the professional quality that can be had for little money now a days. Indie record companies seem to be happy to put out records with very low "press runs". A former customer ran an early CD replication plant that did work for all the major companies. The setup fee for a CD was at one time over $10,000. At the time the company went bankrupt, costs had come down to the point where the setup fee was waived on an order for just 500 discs. That was at least 5 years ago, and it must be even cheaper now.

Yeah, I never thought I would be doing this. I’ve got just around $2500.00 into some recording equipment. I picked up a digital 16 track recorder that you can eq each track on, do the mastering and burn it to a cd. I’m bringing over a musician friend for an unbiased set of ears for the final mix down. We can have 1000 cds made along with art work, shrink wrap, bar code and all for about $1.20 each. Sell them for $10.00 and the project easily pays for it’s self. I have no musical dreams or aspirations, but this sure beats sitting in front the bube tube.

Oh where to start with that fellow...let's just say he doesn't work well with others. I'll sit and have a drink with him, but I don't care to be in a creative process with him.

I'm a Beatle freak so naturaly I have 'Rock n Roll Circus' for the Lennon footage, but its a shame that somebody couldnt have thrown a muzzle on Yoko for 10 to 15 minutes. Regardless, great performances by all the bands involved.

Well, the cd is finished and in production. We have some handy little lunch boxes that will contain the cd, shot glass (or as mom calls them "little cups") and match books. My liver is shot and I'm 20 lbds heavier, but as you can see I'm happy to be done. Some new songs are up at www.myspace.com/fellows2trio

I couldn't get in because the site is down, but I will try back later. ...LATER...Well I tried back later. It's good, and as we were talking about earlier in this thread the quality of the recording for the price spent is really good. Cost is no longer a big consideration in getting music recorded. BTW "untitled" was my favorite. I would not be surprised to see it become a jukebox hit in bars that have sawdust on the floor.

Thanks, Untitled is one of my favorites too. It is amazing what a person can do in his basement. I threw up a couple of mics, Aarons aunts came over with some fiddles, it was done in an hour.

Well...as long as we are talking myspace music...here is a link to my husband's band, Backbiter, which fans of the Who and Roky Erikson will like. The 1st song is kind of "hard core", but the others are more Who/Stones-esque.

I took some of the pics on the site.

Very sweet Elise, I like it. I used to play keys in a band that covered quite a bit of The Who. You can sure hear the influence in Sad Eyes which I'm listening to right now...someone is throwing in some Townshend lics. Sweet.

    tmiles,

The Dirty Mac had LOTS of hits... As John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

Based on your recommendation, I bought it for my 14yo daughter as a Valentines Day present. She loves The Who, Stones, Tull, and Lennon. It'll be right up her alley.

LOL ......MY 16 yo daughter thinks that it is "really lame", and that for me to sit and even watch it more than once was "really stupid". My middle daughter on the other hand, who has toured at the front of a metal band, was very interested in the show that Jagger put on. She says that it is very difficult to know what to do with your hands, feet, etc during a show on stage. His being able to dance, strut and not miss a note amazed her.

    Dearfolk,
When I have the time, I'll dog through this thread and see what - if anything - germane (or silly) I can add. Hmmm, there should be something; after all, I'm the loon with over 40,000 45 rpm records stuffed into every nook and cranny in my house that isn't occupied by furniture, books, or LPs....
I should hasten to add that of that 40,000+, about 10-15,000 are second, third, and steenth copies. When I have time (in warmer weather) to sort through everything, I'll have a plethora of extras to share with my vast and waiting public... so keep your want lists handy!
Seven-Inchingly Along, Ort. Carlton in Lovely Athens, Georgia.
    P. S. Tiki, I haven't forgotten the one you want. I found a copy of it, but it was too badly scratched for me to send to you. I know there's another one someplace... maybe wedged back behind the built-in kitchen stove....

I like the Stones, but the Doors are my favorite. I listen to a wide variety of music, and also enjoy Kate Bush, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paganini, Mozart, Bach, etc. etc. etc. Basically anything is fine except for Boy Bands, Rap, and Britney Spears.
