I adore all-pork hot dogs and hate beef dogs! All pork hot dogs have become extraordinarily difficult to find, but I've finally found a source - Farmer John's sells three pound frozen boxes of all pork dogs.

Anyone else partial to pork dogs?

It's not heresy. I feel the same way. Hot dogs were invented as a pork sausage and the best ones still are. When I was a kid, the only hotdogs made with anything else were Kosher. Then decades later the "low fat" craze produced "chicken or turkeydogs" labeled as such. Now, though, they call 'em "hotdogs" and make 'em with whatever meat is cheapest which is one more degradation of our society. Hotdogs should be made of pork. "All beef" hotdogs should be made of beef. Chickendogs and turkeydogs should be made of those meats. And all would be right with the world.

I'm pretty sure that my beloved Hofmann Coney (white snappy) is an all pork hot dog. The best!
Although, it's spicy and not "red" like a regular hotdog.

I think that it consists of veal and pork!

When I was growing up, I used to run down to my corner store's deli counter to grab 2 Farmer John pork hot dogs to have as a snack.. I preferred them to candy or cakes...

that particular article was giving the ingredients for Sweigles, not Hofmann's brand coneys. Hofmann Coneys are infact pork and veal.

Well, since veal is more expensive than pork, they must feel it improves the taste over pork alone and since you like them, perhaps they are right.

But the folks who add turkey or chicken do it 'cause it's cheap.

BT, I'm in complete agreement. Any fowl or fowl parts in a hot dog, is just foul.

My favorites generaly have beef and pork, but sometimes I do notice veal added too. (could veal just be listed as "beef"? When does veal become beef?). I don't buy the dogs that contain chicken or turkey, based on past experience, but were I at a friend's house, and they were served, I would eat them without complaint. I saw on TV what kind of "meat" is used in chicken and turkey dogs. I'm surprised that those checken dogs taste as good as they do. Update, I just noticed that I am at 997......I need to start thinking of what I will post for 1000.

I haven't come across an all pork hot dog yet. I've heard that Farmer John's (which makes the Dodger Dog) is indeed an all pork dog. The quality dogs near me that contain pork are a blend of beef and pork; sometimes 50/50, sometimes 60% pork, 40% beef. This is the traditional German style dog. Thumann's is 3 parts pork to 1 part beef or 75% pork. Many German dogs also contain a small percentage of veal as well. Hofmann's German franks do as well as the fine franks from Liehs & Steigerwald of Syracuse and many other franks from small European butcher shops. These quality franks are traditional and have more flavor than the milder dogs (also conatining pork) sold in most of the country where hot dogs are primarily looked at as a vehicle to hold condiments.

The spicier, kosher style New York, New Jersey, Chicago area dogs are also tradtional, but with a different flavor profile than the above mentioned German style. Both good, but different. I eat these 2 types of franks all the time. Occasionally I'll have a cheaper dog like Oscar Mayer, Kahn's, or Ballpark if that's all that's available or what's served at cookouts or the ballpark. I won't eat a hot dog containing poultry. Only thing worse is a veggie dog. I think I'd rather eat a worm.

I really miss all the Farmer John products, too bad they aren't out here. We used to buy 5lbs boxes of FJ for family BBQs.

Usually I buy a pork/beef mix for GP useage. When fixing for myself I've started buying Boar's Head.

What am I missing? Isn't Farmer John sort of a low end brand sold at Safeway? Seems to me I buy their bacon for seasoning beans and greens when Hormel or whatever isn't on sale.

BT, I never thought about them as low-end but the flavor of their b'fast sausages, links & rolls and their dogs are truly missed by us displaced from Calif.

Well, if we are talking about the same thing, they are usually the least expensive brand at Safeway if nothing's on sale. That's what I meant by "low end". Quality and price don't always go together and I do buy their stuff sometimes, mostly the bacon as I said:

It's also sold at Smart & Final but I guess they are only out west too.
