Candy I liked as a kid, (Charleston chew, jujubes, Turkish taffy, sugar babies, etc.) seems like the chewier, the better.  Some are still around, some not, but aside from the sugar content being a turn off, there's the fear of dental expenses for a popped crown, etc.

I remember in my late teens getting these Steak and Mushroom pies that came from England in a sealed metal tin. You took the top off with a can opener, popped it in a hot oven and about 45 mins later you had a full pie with crust and you could eat it right out of the pan(on a wooden plank), so no clean-up! They probably had a 1/2 ton of lard in them 3X the sodium limits,  and Gawd knows what else (They also made a liver and steak pie, but I would never touch that!.  Can't imagine eating one of those today, but I still make my own S&M pies from scratch

Same is true of prepared Chicken pies you find in the frozen food section.  Enough salt to be a city in Utah!  And it's just as easy to make from scratch for 1-2 ppl.

Coming from a 100% Irish family, the only seasonings in our house were salt and pepper. Out Italian spaghetti was spaghetti with condenced Campbell's Tomato soup on top. I don't think I COULD down that now, much less want to, though I did like it back in the day!

Eggs.  I used to eat them as a kid.   I don't like 'em now.   I'll still eat them when I can't taste them, such as when they are used in baked goods, etc.

Bologna.

Instant iced tea.

Kool-Aid, Hi-C, etc.

Dark meat chicken.  I used to like both dark and white meat chicken.   Now I only like the white meat.

There was a dish I made 6 or 7 years ago several times, it was pasta with tomato soup and spinach, but I can't remember now what else I'd put in it. It was surprisingly good.

When I first became of drinking age (which was 18 in NY back in the day) I used to love to eat Slim Jims while sitting at the bar. One night, in one of those stupid barroom brags that gets us all into trouble before we learn to hold our liquor, I bet a friend of mine I could eat 10 Slim Jims. Around the 6th or 7th Slim Jim, they all came spewing out along with the several beers I had up to that point. Haven't had a Slim Jim since.

Yeah, that's pretty gross. I can see why you've avoided them since then.

I used to love Slim Jims.  Tried one a couple of years ago and when I bit in to it I could feel and taste the grease which I had never noticed when I was a kid.

When I was a kid I loved going to our local theater and getting a big dill from the jar on the counter to eat during the movie. Almost never got popcorn, if there was a pickle available. While I won't tackle a whole one anymore, I do like them on my burgers. My son, however is a different story. Still regales everyone with his big pickle at Bob Sykes story, when given the opening.

After I posted yesterday I started looking into the Slim Jim history. Apparently the formula was changed in the mid 80's when some conglomerate or other took over the Slim Jim operation. Although I couldn't find out exactly what the changes were, I'm sure the changes were not for the better. So it's probable that they ARE greasier than you remembered as a kid.

French Toast but with an *.

My Mother has an excellent way of making it and I am fortunate enough to have her still banging it out.

That's one item (in my opinion) that our awesome Diners easily make too big...too dry...or too soggy.

In defense of the Diners...they have an excellent way with Turkey. Something that would easily make the do not like list otherwise.

OMG.............say it isn't true!  Franco died?  Gave up his citizenship? Is Chef Boyardee on the next plane of illegal aliens? Did the Scottish Campbells finally get back for the Battle of Culloden? If Duncan Hines gets outed by CNN, I'm gonna call Betty Crocker and get her to make sure he has a good lawyer! The Clarks were pretty good at learning The BAR. Mayhbe they could help. Peter & Paul are useless, sometimes they are even nuts, but I've heard good things about the M&M brothers ( I think they are male.who knows?)

Back a few years when everything French was bad -- remember Freedom Fries? -- Campbell's changed the name in order to avoid possible problems with the American public. Frankly (Franco?), I wish they'd change it back.

Mechanically separated meat is meat that has been forced through a sieve under high pressure to separate the edible meat from the bone and inedible tissue. It's also referred to as "mechanically recovered/reclaimed meat" or "mechanically deboned meat." It formes a sort of paste-like meat sludge as it goes through the process that is easily mixed in with other fillers and emulsifiers to give the finished product a shape, such as a Slim Jim. Basically, it's the "pink slime" (although with chicken, it is referred to as "white slime") that you hear about people using in hot dogs and other sorts of highly processed meats.
