Metro 29 Diner, Arlington, VA. Corner of Lee and Glebe. Five will absolutely fill you up and they serve you six.

We live in Dallas now and can't find a place which does lightly breaded 10 - 16 ct. shrimp. (III Forks has it on the menu, but I go there for beef and it's hardly "Roadfood")!

There was a place locally in my area a while back that served 6 ct. fried shrimp with all of the fixings. They gave you 8. The establishment was doing so well that owner bought a bigger place. Out of business 6 months later. Supply couldn't keep up with demand. Bummer.

I am a big lover of fried shrimp and clearly the best I have ever had was at O'Steen's in St. Augustine, Florida. If you go, be prepared to wait. The place gets mobbed!

I had a three year fling in the restaurant business by starting and trying to operate a "Juicy Lucy's" franchise in New Carrollton, MD.

Overhead will kill you and so will larcenous employees (they seem to have a trade school in Prince George's County for that)! Thank the Lord I found some Koreans with cash!

Our absolute favorite is Vincent's Clam Bar in NYC's Little Italy l ocated at Mott and Hester streets.Served with their famous sauce(medium hot or extra hot) and a hard Italian biscuit to sop up any remaining sauce.I have been going there for over 40 years and have never been disappointed. Not cheap but well worth it.

You can't swing a cat around here without hitting a good seafood joint. We have our share of bad ones too. My three favorits around the Houston area in order are:

              1. Monument Inn
              http://www.monumentinn.com/

              2. Top Water Grill
              http://houston.citysearch.com/profile/37434817

              3. Clary's Seafood
              http://www.galveston.com/clarysseafood/

Monument Inn best all you can eat in town. Top Water Grill is a fun place right on Galveston Bay in San Leon. I used to drop my boat there when it was a fuel/boatlift/convenience store. Capt. Wally who owned it and a fleet of shrimp boats still supplies shrimp to his son who runs the restaurant. Clary's is a really nice place, great atmosphere for a special occasion or romantic dinner.

Isn't that what used to be the San Jacinto Inn? I remember going there for all you could eat meals that cost the princely sum of $2.95.

They were two different restaurants across from each other. San Jacinto Inn moved across and down the road a bit and Monument Inn moved into the old San Jacinto Inn building. San Jacinto Inn closed down and the Monument Inn burned down a little latter. They moved to where the San Jacinto Inn was before it closed down. I think thats the way I remember it, it has gotten a little blured over the years.

Well, I have good memories of the old place. Another place I loved in Houston was Kelley's. There was Kelley's Oyster Bar right across the street from the Rice Hotel, and another Kelley's (a regular sit-down restaurant) on South Main. At the oyster bar I'd get iced-down shrimp-in-the-shell steamed in beer on tin plates, along with paper cups with catsup in one and horseradish in the other to mix your own sauce. My standard order was for half a dozen shrimp (you'd get seven) and a Pearl. The shrimp were huge.

I will only be able to add partial information about the place where I used to get some wonderful Fried Shrimp, as the last time I was there was about 10 years ago, and I haven't a clue as to wether it is still in business or not. It was a small Seafood store offering fresh-raw or fresh-fried seafood of various types. Owned by some Asian folks. It was located in the small business district located right outside the main gate of Fort Dix, in Wrightstown, New Jersey. They sold scallops, clams, unshucked Oysters, and several varieties of shrimp and fish. You could buy it raw and take it home to prepare, or order individual servings deep-fried. In addition to several "sizes" of Shrimp they offered large Stuffed Shrimp. That was a large 'butterflied' shrimp with about a tablespoon (or more)of crab-stuffing spread on one side, then bread/battered and fried.
The last time I purchased them (1997) they sold for about a buck apiece. Three would be great and four or more would fill a person without room for side dishes. Fresh and hot out of the fryer, they were an outstanding 'snack'. Our favorite use was to buy several, take them and some spicy cocktail sauce to the nearby park on Ft Dix, from which we could watch the airplane 'action' on the runways of McGuire AFB and watch the jets while dipping those great Shrimp. If any of you know the name of the place, or if it is still around, post it please. It was a great place to get some absolutely great Shrimp.

                            Crosby, Texas!

My wife's family is from there. Her uncle has friends who has shrimps boats. He gets them straight from the boat. They are cleaned and deveined for $10 a pound. Had a shrimp fry that night, no restaurant can ever come close. I am from West Texas, so BBQ and Mesquite grilled anything is king but fresh seafood straight off the boat is the way to go!

This is an interesting point. Cleaned & deveined shrimp, that is. Why would people want this when buying fresh shrimp? I would prefer fresh jumbo (or larger) heads-on shrimp at a third of the cost, myself. They HAVE to be fresh if bought this way, etc.

O'Steen's in St Augustine FL is by far the best I've had
They also have rockin' fried oysters

The best I can ever remember is Rusty Bellies on the far end of the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs, FL. They tasted like they had just come out of the gulf.

                                                        FINALLY!

At last we've discovered some wonderful fried shrimp in Dallas: http://www.seabreezefish.com/

Lightly breaded FRESH colossals! Just ask for some extra horseradish for the cocktail sauce!

Their other offerings are excellent as well.

A long, long, long way from the ocean, Slim McGinn's on 1st and Florida in Milwaukee's Walkers Point area serves up some outstanding fried shrimp on Friday's, dinnertime only. Lightly breaded, cooked just enough and not a bit more, they should satisfy any fried shrimp lover. Until I taste every fried shrimp there is in America, I have no idea whose are best, but I can say that these are special. I too love fried shrimp but why are they so often overcooked?
