Buckaroo, you've been missed! Hope all is well with you in your new home. Come up and see us some time! We've got two tours coming up in the next 60 or so days; one in Chicago and one in Milwaukee. Your buddy, Buddy

carolinabob Thanks for the kind words, folks. I'm back... Glad to have you back, Bob! If you're interested, I'm going to be in Greensburg for lunch on the 23rd and am planning on hitting Storie's and Pork-N-More with a couple of people from a barbecue board...you're certainly welcome but I'll also have plenty of time to stop in Batesville for some fried chicken and a casket factory tour later in the day. Brad

Well, thank goodness you're back, Bob! We were all worried about you. Now, can you re-post that trip report that you began but didn't finish that I was a part of? When we last saw you two years ago, you were headed from southern Indiana to see Buffetbuster in Pittsburgh? Just pick up where you left off. Your presence here on Roadfood will be much appreciated by everyone.

I really appreciate so many of you welcoming me back, but I don't think you should anticipate any more trip reports. The unpleasant events of two years ago pretty much killed the interest / passion that I had for that aspect of roadfooding, and I honestly don't know if I'll ever get it back. The fact that I've returned to posting on this site, when I had sworn that I never would again, shows just how much truth there is to the old saying "never say never", so who knows? A year or two from now the trip report bug might return ( depends on how good my therapist is at his job! ) Brad, the 23rd in Greensburg sounds good to me ( it's less than 20 miles from Batesville ); I ate last year at that BBQ place and wasn't too impressed, but then I was there on a day when everything seemed to be going wrong ( ice machine broken, etc. ) Maybe I'll have a better experience this time. No tours at the casket plant, but I can introduce you to some fried chicken in the area that will knock your socks off.

No tours? Geez...is there at least a factory showroom where I can buy direct and save big $$$? Odds are I'll have a few hours to kill that afternoon so if Greensburg doesn't interest you (sorry to hear you had a bad time at Pork-N-More) I can certainly stop in Batesville since it's going to be right on my way.

Brad, my meal at Pork-n-More wasn't a bad one, it just wasn't quite as good as I had hoped it would be. As I said, I picked the wrong day to visit as the staff was having their problems that day ( primarily that tempermental ice machine. ) I've been thinking about giving it another try lately, and the 23rd is as good a time as any. And believe me, there's some really great fried chicken to be had down here, all at non-chain family-owned places of course ( the Old Brick Tavern in nearby Penntown is my favorite; the building predates the Civil War by nearly ten years. )

Sounds like Bob is angling for a Contingent tour of Southern Indiana Fried Chicken. That actually sounds pretty good, doesn't it? In fact, given the geographic parameters involved, this could be a historic meeting between The Contingent and The Glee Club. Would Southern Indiana survive the invasion? Buddy

A SE Indiana fried chicken tour sounds good, Buddy, but someone other than me will have to put it together; I'm permanently out of the RF tour arraignment biz. Some info please on the two upcoming Contingent gatherings you mentioned earlier. It's not too likely that I can make either but we''ll see. BTW, I'm going to be in Chicagoland all day this Sat. ( the 18th ) due to a late morning doctor's appointment; would you be interested in meeting for a late lunch ( 1:30 or so ) at Paradise Pup?

Bob, we're doing the annual Fred's day in Burlington on Saturday...any chance you could make it? I'll let you know when plans for the 23rd get finalized but right now it's looking like an 11am start time.

Well, if it's Fred's Day in Burlington on Saturday, I imagine Buddy's not going to be available for lunch at the P-Pup. Wish I could be part of this gathering, but other commitments that day ( the doctor's appointment plus dinner with old friends in Chicago ) rule it out. Brad, 11 AM works fine; you are talking about Eastern time, aren't you? Almost all of Indiana is on ET. Update: There is a very slight chance that I can join ya'll at Fred's around two or so, but I wouldn't be able to stay too long' since I have to be at my friend's place on the north side by 7PM. It all depends on how quickly I can get out of the doctor's office, so no guarantees.

carolinabob Brad, 11 AM works fine; you are talking about Eastern time, aren't you? Almost all of Indiana is on ET. Yes, Eastern. The time change is great for the return trip but not so great for the trip out, which is when I actually like to take my time and I hate giving up that hour! Hope you can make it Saturday!

I definitely won't be able to make either the September or October tours, but things are looking better for my being at Fred's on Saturday. My doctor takes patients in the order that they show up, so if I can get my lazy rump out of bed early enough, I should be able to make this work. BTW, my Hoosier relocation hasn't worked out the way I hoped it would, so I'm going to be moving back to Chicagoland when my lease is up in the spring. You Contingent members will get to see me more often ( whether you want to or not! )
