Mr. Chips also gets my vote in the Classy department. Ben Baah says that his back surgery was a success!

As has been said many times here, Folks come and go as the 'winds of time' direct. Some just change priorities, others have stronger reasons, and yes, some are invited to leave. For those of us who grew up in a slower evolving social group...example, living as an adult in the same neighborhood or community where you spent your childhood, sometimes these 'coming and going' trends can be disturbing. For others who have experienced the ebb and flow lifestyle, it is just another day in Paradise !! There are names that I no longer see here that I think about now and then and wonder how they are doing... Lone Star, ET, BT, Legal Lady, Pogo, Bobs, and Mayhew Man, for example. The list could be many times longer as more folks move on and Newbies take their place. Some others are around but don't post much these days for a variety of reasons, Cheeswit and Signman in Philly, Bushie, My Texas Buddy, Ed Sailes in L A , Rick F our friend in Louisiana, and of course AnnPeeples who will get back on-line shortly up in Milwaukee. It is an interesting place to meet folks and share some time.

Hey, I check in from time to time but quit posting after some of the changes. Good to see you still kicking Mr. Chips. Like a lot of folks 2009 was pretty hard, 2010 is turning out much better. The local politicians finally pushed my buttons one too many times, and I'm running for office. It's been a long summer of door knocking.

Amazing thing----but I miss getting up at 5AM and going to work. Making sure guys were where they were supposed to be, and doing what they are supposed to do. Grabbing coffee and fried egg sandwiches, followed by TUMS. Those were the good old days. In Florida there are no delis ----- no greasy fried egg sandwiches. I miss them a lot. My stomach doesn't.

Please don't mistake my love for my MidWestern Retired Lifestyle, But I must admit I miss the long-distance vistas, and hobbies I enjoyed while living on the SoCal High Desert. Chasing mile-long trains across the wide open spaces thru places like Ludlow and Baghdad and Cadiz has so much more 'historical interest' to me than dodging a ten car freight train on the streets of new Albany, Indiana. Work. Ehhh, I loved teaching. I loved my students (after they were gone !!) but Retirement and the freedom it gives is much more interesting than repeating the work ethic every day !!!

This morning I dropped Janet off at the airport for her weekend trip to Ontario (CA) with a stop in Dallas on the way. I then went to Lowes and Walmart for a few things and did a drive-thru breakfast stop after the shopping. I was just leaving the drive-thru when I got a Cell-phone call from the lady I married, calling to let me know she got to Dallas safely and was heading for the gate to board the plane for the second half of her trip out. Yeah...I do miss her already , but even more I miss having the time to adjust to the changing world around us. THIS is in the context of me running a "quickie" two stop errand at stores and driving about 25 miles in the same amount of time my wife runs the security barrier, boards her flight, and gets to DFW 1300 miles away !!! Yeah I miss the days when travel was done at a speed that made looking out the window an activity that brought pleasure to the mind. AL

I've seen Ed Sails in the past couple weeks. He's been visiting his brother in Corvallis and we've eaten together a couple times. I think he's preparing his own trip report so i will leave it at that for the time being.
