the back & forth banter we used to have on this site. you could spend just an hour sitting at the computer on this site responding to different threads & people would respond almost instantly & have back & forth conversations. times change & I'm a guilty party to it. I can't spend as much time as I want sitting in front of a computer as I used to. I do miss the BBustng we used to do. oh well, I'm still here when I can be. it's still the BEST site I visit.

B.S. is what I do best! Since I find myself newly unemployed, I have plenty of time to post here. I am open to any talk related to food. David O.

SK Bob-------banter away, think of something exotic to banter about and watch the replies light up the screen. As someone once said about a cornfield in Iowa----build it and they will come. David O. ---- how come your unemployed ---- that is a bad thing to be. Especially with winter comin' on in Alaska. It will be nice having you on Roadfood more, but that could put a big fat hole in your budget.

SK Bob Even the old timers have 'slack' times here on the site. I have days when I have time for this 'fun' and other days when I check in to see if there are issues to solve, and then do other stuff. This has been a very uncomfortable summer in the Ohio Valley, and I have spent more time on the PC than I would have if the climate and economy would have allowed allowed more 'outside' activity. Hang in there. You are a welcome addition to the site, as your time and activity-desires permits. AL PS- I-95, Is Clothier still fishing that hole???

Boy-O-Boy-R-Dee----I read your story in the professional section---even though I am not a professional --- I sneaked a peek. Your ex-boss must be on the loco-weed. He will regret the dastardly deed--- By joining unemployment you will get a lot of perks so bundle up and enjoy the winter.

Ancient mariner, most of the topics you mentioned are off limits. I also miss the old discussions, but the powers that be deemed us not mature enough for political discussions.

I miss it also but it pretty much stopped when they changed the layout and deleting certain forums from the main page. It has turned into a Professional Hot Dog board. Sad isn't it...Russ

By the way Russ, I'm thinking of getting into the hot dog business. I've purchased a cart from All-American with a twin-turbo V-8 engine that can do 0-60 in just over 3 seconds and heat the food at the same time. Do you know what the best high-speed hot dogs to use are? I used a skinless Nathans 8:1 before but because of the G-forces that we pull they implode after about 4 seconds and they are difficult to keep on the bun while we are hitting speeds in excess of 185 MPH. The condiments are blowing around like hell and I'm just having a problem overall chasing cars down and getting the hang of this business. I hired a kid but he was all done after about the 3rd hour when we went through a tollbooth at 145 mph and he bent over to get a dog, his elbow hit the side of the booth and we haven't seen him since. I suppose I'd miss him but I just never really got to know him. Hopefully Day 2 will be better.

We tend to stay on the straightaways, Michael. These things just don't turn like we had hoped at higher speeds and the flames from the exhaust kill any foliage on corners.

I have been lurking around for some time and this is a great site. I lost my job roofing and I have always thought about street vending. Do you think I can convert an old hot tar roofing trailer into a Hot Dog cart? Has anyone done this before? Do you think the HD will be difficult? Any Ideas on getting the old tar off or should I just paint over it? Any help with this would be great as I have a huge event this weekend and I already reserved my spot....Russ

Russ, I have just the spot for you.........................just 3 miles from where I live. The location is perfect................200 yards off 1-70 and right by the entrance to the mall on one side of road and the spot to set up which is by entrance to local landfill. Trucks going in and out all the time. There was a regular guy there for years but suddenly left and now there is this new "hot dog dude" there but only 2 or 3 days a week. And heck, you would not even have to clean the tar off......just come on down!

Any Ideas on getting the old tar off or should I just paint over it? Any help with this would be great as I have a huge event this weekend and I already reserved my spot....Russ You're sitting on a gold mine!! Fire up the tar and throw in the dogs. Need some names? How about Dog Tarred (like in Dog Tired) or something kooky like that. You'll need to scout out a site as well, unless you're going to be mobile like me. The best way to find a good site is to look for another hot dog cart. When you've found another cart that's doing good business, get their earlier than that other cart, or find someway to disable it so that you can poach his spot. For good measure, make sure to tell all your customers how the old cart was shut down by the health department or the owner molested cats. Make sure to differentiate yourself from other carts by serving items other than hot dogs. Keep some fresh rabbits or chickens tied to the cart to show variety, and kill them in front of customers to show how fresh they are. Hope this helps.

Another great idea..............................carry tater tots. The kids aoround here love them. Don't worry aabout keeping them warm. You can serve them cold just as long as you hand out those little cups filled with Ketchup for dipping.

Hey Russ Get rid of the roofing tar and get some pine tar and do the old fashioned pine tar baked potatoes like C****** B****** used to have.
