I need the help of a PC guru

I'm trying to figure out some home networking stuff, my big issue right now is transfering very large files from one PC to another. I've used SendTo but can't sendto a partition on my 80gig drive (D:), C, E & F are listed but E & F are optical drives. I have tried adding a new folder in SendTo but when I click on it it doesn't do anything.

Maybe Zip up all the files and folders, go to the other computer and import that zip file? Worth a shot... Either way, it's probably something simple, but I'm more hands on then teaching.. Not to mention every machine has its own attitude problems..

You do realize how easy this would be with a Mac, don't you? Just hook them together with a firewire cable putting one in "target disk mode" and drag the files you want from where they are to where you want them. You can also do the same thing if you have the two machines networked. I have no idea if anything similar works on a PeeCee. All this C/E/F business is Greek to me. My machine's main hard drive partition is named "Main iBook Drive" and the other partition is named "Secondary iBook Drive" and my external hard drive (for backing up) is named "LaCie Drive" (because LaCie made it).

I don't have either the skills or the equipment to establish a network arrangement between my tower and my laptop. What I do have that seems to work well for major transfers of data is an external Hard drive (250 Gig). When I wanted to transfer about 15 gigs of photo files and the contents of a 10 gig hard drive (my 'f' drive on the tower) I copied all to the external Hard drive using a USB connection. I then plugged the same cord into the Laptop and uploaded the whole mess.
Simplistic, but it did the trick.

Darn it allllll, where is Red when I need her the most!

Actually I did a bunch more reading and found the answer.

fpczyz, thanks for the link, not exactly what I wanted but it does have some great info about networks.

Mr. Mayor, I have found that a network is pretty simple to setup and run. I've done so this past few days. I bought a wireless router/firewall, followed the simple directions and within minutes had my laptop talking to my desktop and to the 'net wirelessly.

Thanks for the help people....cough cough :)

Glad to see you solved your problem. Next time do what I do when I have problems with this box. Just go to your local school bus stop and look for a kid about 14 wearing glasses, an arm load of books and wearing a bow tie but the bow tie is optional. Any way grab him slap him in front of said machine and he will have you on the right track in no time. The next day when you are in front of the Judge just explain to him what your problem was. Belive me they can be very understanding. Chow Jim

I use a 2g memory stick to transfer files between my computers. They are about the size of a keychain, can be put in your pocket but the "cool" geeky college professors where I work wear them around their necks on a lanyard.

for some reason the link didn't work for me When I finally give up screaming and pulling my hair I call a young friend who generally shakes his head, taps a few keys and goes home laughing while I pour a couple fingers of dark amber adult beverage

A long time ago I used to be that geeky 14 year old w/o the bowtie. I've been involved with computers since I was 11...38 years ago.
In my current job I manage a system with 100,000 users and 35 terabytes of storage. But sometimes this little box known as a PC can drive me nuts.

Roosy90, I'd rather have a double shot of cognac for this cough :)

The problem might be the same one I had when I first attempted posting pictures. I was pasting the web page URL; you need to post the picture's URL. Right click on the picture; click on properties; cut and paste the address URL. Here's what I get on the page you chose.

This is the URL address I'm using:http://www.johnbaeder.com/Oils/400x/400xWhite-Manna-Hamburgers-.jpg As I posted this it added an underline that was not on the original URL but hope this helps. Keep trying. Some one helped me out this very same way and my original attempts gave me that very same X'd out box you are getting.
By the way, I love his pictures of those diners; great stuff!

Thanks for the help, I am not getting a url under properties for the pics I try,When I right click on the diner pictures; properties does not show on the list. Also the pic I'm trying now has no properties. It is our Governor's favorite fast food We call it the Arnold, they call it Protein Style.

Will you go to the In n Out review in the above url and see if you can put the picture here.

Yowzah but that burger looks good. I'm not a FF fan but the burger doesn't resemble any FF I've ever seen.

Now when you right click on the picture, there is no dialog box that opens up? "Properties" would be at the very bottom. I'm using Windows XP. Is yours a Mac by any chance? I'm not familar with their product but I assumed it might work the same. You should be able to do that with this picture. Sorry.
