I need to buy a new flat top grill! Thu, 04/24/08 9:19 AM (permalink)
What type of flat top grill should I buy: manual control, thermostatic control, ...... brand - Besides our people, our grill is the heart of oour operation. We do mainly hotdogs, burgers, & cheese steaks. Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Vulcan
36" Wolfe Manual Griddle - Heavy Duty
    Stainless steel front & sides
    4" front top ledge
    4" adjustable legs
    3 burners
    1 grease drawer

This is what I have in my set up, the thing is a work horse. I like the manual controls better, I feel I can control what is going on better than the thermostat.

New it was $1500-$1700, but you can find used for some times half that if you search.

    How big is our current grill 24", 36", 48" 60" 72"??

Our current grill is 48" manual but we need to move to a 36" so we can add a deep fryer and have everything under our anusal system - Our 48" seems slow and hot dogs take forever.

In the meantime par fry some dogs, keep them warm, slap them on the griddle to order, saves time.

I like the thermostatic control option; less hot spots. Vulcan and Wolfe are very good. Cecilware is decent, if price is an object. The best is Keating of Chicago. They have a Miraclean finish that makes clean-up much easier. Expensive but very, very good. Incidently, they also make the best fryers; very fast recovery.

If it's gas, you can usually find a good used piece. There are fewer things to go wrong and you can repair them easier. I would not buy used electric cooking equipment..
