I think I like this idea!!! Wed, 10/27/04 2:55 PM (permalink)
http://www.menmakedinnerday.com/

Some of the guys on this board would have no problem with this at all (Grampy and ?????). But others I can imagine might have a tough time with it (i95, i95, and i95). Check out the rules!

So guys--what are you making on Thursday?

        I could make:

        Pancakes for breakfast....

Hamburger Helper (Don't laugh! ) hash browns with lo-fat
ground turkey substituted for ground beef (and adding mushrooms)

Tabasco Chili (sauce/spices in a jar) with ground turkey (very
versatile) and corn, cumin, red pepper, a dash or two of Frank's
Red-Hot sauce, and a few shakes of honey barbeque sauce added in

I could also make a corn casserole, like I did for a pot-luck
luncheon at church last Sunday, but would rather make that for a
large group of people (and it was nearly all gone...) [|)]

Yes...this is what happened last time I made dinner at home.

However. I just don't understand your overt willingness to constantly throw such in my face, meowzart!

Ha! What's that buried under the tarp in your backyard??

My husband and I usually cook supper together if we are both at home, or whoever is home does it. I raised him up to be a pretty good cook.

Except once when we were first married and I was working a double shift overnight at the hosptial. He lovingly created a recipe he found in a cookbook called "Shrimp Victoria", to be served over rice. He cooked all evening and brought some to the hospital for me. Later,I took the first bite, and when I got through hacking, gagging and coughing, called him to ask just how much salt he put in the rice. He put ONE CUP instead of one teaspoon.

Meowzart has me pegged. I am the cook, and I cannot recall the last time my wife made an entire meal. Perhaps never. She helps at Thanksgiving, though, by putting salt in things.

Since my husband knows nothing of this forum(much less cooking), I'd like permission to answer for him.

His only cookable meal would have to consist of a fully loaded omelet(cheese, ham, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, and tomatoes)and fried potatoes. That he can do.

I don't want my husband in my kitchen.. while he is capable of whipping up something decent, he uses up way too many dishes, and his dishwashing skills are scary and sad.

And dishwashing rears it's ugly head. My wife is happy with my cooking, only if it includes the cleanup.

Linda is not happy with my cooking, my cleanup, or my attitude if I'm trying to fix something in the kitchen. Too bad, 'cause I do really wish I had more skill and ability; then I might actually enjoy it. There have been so many disappointments....

My wife came from a family of seven, four of them girls. She never learned how to cook, as her job was to help clean. Soon after we were married, I came home to find that she was cooking dinner. Very proud of the roast chicken she was making she opened the oven for me. I made the mistake of asking her why it was upside down.

The kitchen, the grill, the smoker, and the clean-up are entirely mine, and the rest of the house is hers...

I don't usually make dinner on Thursdays. I usually end up odering something because by the time I get around to eating it's about 9:30 or 10 at night, and I don't feel like starting to cook.
I can tell you what I'm making tonight, though. Sausage filled ravioli with a simple tomato cream sauce. I'll also serve some hot and sweet sausange with it, along with a salad of sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil, and a loaf of ciabatta bread with some good olive oil for dipping. Oh, and a very nice zinfandel. That's my 16 year old grandson's favorite wine.

The only problem with this is that it is from a Canadian radio station. Apparently, men in the United States are off the hook.

Besides, next Thursday, I will be in Seattle, staying at the W (no relation to you know who!). The rooms there are not equipped with a kitchen, and the rules prohibit the use of an open flame. I suppose I COULD march myself into the kitchen of their restaurant....

I do 95% of the cooking in our house anyway. If I don't get home in time for dinner, I'm usually greated with chinese take-out or pizza and wings.

Didn't make dinner Thursday (had leftover spinach/turkey lasagna made from scratch on Monday). Tonite I've picked up fresh chinese barbecued pork to make pork fried rice with fresh pea shoots in oyster sauce. Tomorrow night I'm grilling ribeye steaks with sauteed mushrooms and fresh shrimp cocktails. Last Saturday night's feast for friends was jambalaya with shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage followed by Bananas Foster. Some of us men do cook!

Maybe I should put this in the thread about personal--dating on the internet? worth a try......

The SO has been known to cook a very good meal from time to time, maybe once a year. Why would a man want to cook when he has a resident French chef??? I like it better when he's out of the kitchen........less mess, less clean-up, us professional chefs have it down to a science. He is the master smoker of salmon. I do not interfere with that process. All other meals usually come from his chef or recipes inherited from her Italian Mother. Nobody is starving here in Alaska!!

good idea.. i like it too.. used to have something like that with my first husband.. he was the "Grill master" i did the indoor cooking and he did the outdoor-- he loved the challange of charcoal and getting the coals JUST RIGHT to cook on .. he sometimes did inside cooking too-- BUT that wasn't that often because we had an arrangement-- whoever cooked - the other person cleaned up.. when he did inside cooking-- he usually MADE A MAJOR MESS....... he's gone now and so are those clean up times--but the memories will be there for always...... anyway-- i have another husband now and he does the 'open fire' cooking.. so,i guess i lucked out once again......
happy cooking.. and i have to wonder as well--what's hiding under that tarp??? hahahaha

What's the big deal? I cook almost eevery meal even though my wife is a good cook. I do the laundry as well. Make beds, too.

OIne thing that is interesting to me as I get older is more & more men are doing the household things and talking about it, trading tips, etc when they get together. Women, on the other hand, are discussing work and politics. I think it's interesting only because this seems to have flip-flopped in my lifetime.

I too can't remember the last time PP made a full meal. For lunch while I'm sleeping her and our 3 year old will have something out of the freezer nuked or a Lunchable. When I go out of town they eat prepared frozen or take out.

I do the cooking, the grocery shopping and the vacuming. She does the rest.

Bill & I were at dinner Friday night, and out of the blue, he says, "I would like to learn how to cook better!" I told him I would teach him when we retire. Officially that's 20 years away for me. He can make over-easy eggs and the rest I do when he's at my place. I don't go in his kitchen; it's gross.

There is a rule around the Sundancer;s compound. If you cook it, you clean it up and that is it!!!!!!!!

The Sundancer does any and all the cooking that is done around this place. Wife is a professional and works dailey. Eats out every day even on the weekends. I cook only for personal enjoyment. Since my retirement I do less and less.
