I-10 from Houston to New Orleans

I'm actually driving from Galveston to NO and figure to hit Beaumont around lunch time. So looking primarily for suggestions there or shortly beyond. Don't want to spoil the appetite for when I get to NO.

Sorry, signman, about all I've ever heard about Beaumont is Sartin's, the bbq'd crab place, but I've never eaten there. I'm headed over that way soon, too, but I'm gonna save my appetite for some of the other places in S. Louisiana reviewed on this site or by Mayhaw Man. I think there were some places in the 'golden triangle' (Beaumont, Pt. Arthur, Orange) mentioned on that old Texas thread started by Aida last year. Why not eat before leaving the Galveston area? More time to get your appetite back before getting to NOLA . http://www.crystalbeach.com/george.html This place also does the bbq'd crabs and other seafood. I've heard lots of good stuff about it on a local website. Take the ferry across to the Bolivar Peninsula; then, you can just head up 87 to High Island and go north to I-10 at Winnie on 124 -- a lot better way to get out of Galveston than coming up I-45 to Houston except on weekends when there can be a couple hour wait for the ferry.

Actually the Ferry route is the way I was planning to go. I'm arriving in Galveston via a cruise ship and figure to get on the road by 11 AM. Just looked at the map again, and could certainly hold out til Lake Charles area. Also would like to hear about places in Lafayette and Breaux Bridge.

Some good cheap casino all u can eat buffets have, I would guess hurt the local eateries. You can't miss the casinos for all the highway billboards. Don't eat too much, because as you said you want to be hungry in NO. I've enjoyed "The Court of Two Sisters" on past visits. "Chez Paul" seems to have room early, but the line goes up the block if you wait until a normal dinner time.

Looks like I'll be headed out in a couple of days. Places near the top of my list include Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge and Prejeans in Lafayette, plus Joe's Dreyfus Store in Livonia and the catfish place in Manchac that Mayhaw Man used to brag about, but there are so many tempting places reviewed on this site by Michael Stern... . Decisions, decisions, decisions. I like to be spontaneous when on vacation, so I won't make a final choice until I pull into a parking lot. To make it a little easier on myself, I'm not going all the way to NOLA...unless I get a craving for a muffaletta.....

The menu at Prejeans looks terrific. I think that'll be my destination. Thanks for your help.

You're more than welcome. I may be headed out Mon or Tues or maybe later in the week; I'll wait to see what Matthew does. I'm also headed west toward San Antonio this week, along the back roads with the windows rolled down, sniffing the air for smoke, hoping to find some little unheard of barbecue place in a small town. I may go west before I go east.
