I-80 Reno to Chicago

For the past several years we make a couple of road trips per year from the West Coast to Chicago via I-80. We are going to change the route a little this year so I though we may want to get some suggestions. Since we will be driving about 9 hours a day dinner is the one thing we can really look forward to. Here is where we plan to stop and the places we have liked in the past. Elko, NV Misty's at the Red Lion We had a memorable meal there a couple of years ago complete with an impromptu Opera solo by one of the patrons, who was great! Cheyenne, Wy West Des Moines, IA Omaha, NE Rawlins, WY Winnemucca, NV Las Margaritas Mexican Restaurant Have eaten there at least 20 times and never regretted it. Thanks for any input.

Thanks, we had thought about Rubes last year. The weather was pretty rough when we hit Des Moines. It was my first time hearing the tornado warnings go off while driving. I kind of lost that big ol appetite. We are definitely in for a big piece of seared bovine at least once on this trip. The Danish Inn in Elkhorn, IA seems interesting since smorgasbords have all but disappeared.

My favorite is the Martin Hotel in Winnemucca for family style basque. Almost a boarding house. Jugs of wine, bowls of beans, lamb. Rawlins has a great cafe where I got a tremendous bowl of chili, and a nifty Place where we had breakfast. It's housed in a Mansion on the road through town towards the east exit. I can't remember the name of either place, but they were tasty. I'm still a Bohemian Cafe fan, cuz there's just not many places like it. dumplings. mmmmm. http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=458

I haven't tried the Martin Hotel yet. I guess I'm spoiled from old times (about 30 years ago) at so many good basque places in the Central Valley. How is their lamb?

SRS, I'm not enough of a lamb lover to rate it against others, I just enjoy the family style experience. We have no basque places in Southern Oregon, so I'm in a good eating mood by the time we get to Winnemucca. I'm interested in your Mexican Place. Is it on the main drag?
