Here's a few from my hometown. These are some of my favorite casual places. We also have some pretty darn good upscale (ethnic) restaurants.
Hazleton:
The Ovalon---solid old school Italian.
(While in town, pick of a box of pitza---cold square pizza at Senape's, ask for directions).
Wilkes-Barre
The Dough Company---very good sweet-sauce pizza (order extra sauce and onions) along a strip of chains by the Wyoming Valley Mall.
Tony's---across the river, Rt. 11 in Kingston. Northeast PA's best sandwich. The Grilled Italian hoagies of my dreams! The special sauce rules! He'll even make 'em for ya at breakfast. 6a-2p M-F, 6a-1p, closed Sunday.
Old Forge: (Pizza Pizza Pizza!)
take the Davis St. to Main Ave., about 2 miles, then make a left).
---Revello's is the most consistent. Tremendous square red, top a few with Meatballs. I love this place!
---White Pizza fans love Arcaro and Genell's. I prefer the pasta.
---Runners up: Colarusso's, Rt. 11 in Avoca (Red pizza). All places are open for dinner only.
Arcaro's in Taylor on the Scranton line, make a
right on Main instead. Great red cuts with goopy cheese!
Dupont:
---The Lincoln Inn on Lincoln Street (off 315 South-Bound). It's a house where you can get amazing Italian. My favorite Red Sauce in Northeast PA. I'm never disappointed by the capelletti.
Scranton:
The Glider Diner---on Providence Ave., excellent Roast Beef sandwiches for 50 plus years. Get 'em with excellent mashed potatoes---and gravy all over.
If you like Texas Weiners, you may want to try both Coney Islands downtown---they are competitors---on Lackawanna and Adams---about a block from each other. My favorite hot dogs come from the Central Lunch. Main St. in Pittston (they close early---get 'em to go).
...and these are a few of my favorite hometown things!
