i made a salad for thanksgiving that would do. same idea to cut through the richness of the main dish. it was sliced fennel, red onion and orange segments tossed with a little vinagrette. 12/5: i knew i forgot something. this had jullienned red bell pepper, too.

Our neighbors joined us for Thanksgiving. She brought an Italian side dish: gently steamed broccoli, tossed with olive oil and fresh garlic, sliced thin, a little salt and pepper, then a squeeze of lemon juice. This was served at room temperature. What a treat, and so simple...there wasn't one bite left. I can't think of any meat or seafood this would't complement.

Steamed Artichokes served with a nice lemon or garlic aoli for dipping the leaves. Might as well serve another finger food with it!

tiny red or white boiled potatoes which can be dipped into the melted butter, and a nice tangy cole slaw

I would have more crab as my side. Sometimes a sprinkling of Lawry's Seasoning Salt believe it or not.

thanks for all the suggestions- will keep some in mind for the future...the crabs were sweet and meaty, the store was a near riot, but fun...ended up making stuffed clams and simple green salad..may get more crabbies today
