I wonder what they charge for a lobster roll. I know in Maryland a crab cake sandwich was tried for a while. It didn't last. I never had it. I don't think I missed out. I think some of those concepts would work well in the States. The avocado seems like a natural for California.

Quite a few years ago my husband and I stopped at a McDonalds in Maine and they offered a lobster roll. It wasn't too bad. They also offered pizza which I don't think they ever tried here in NJ.

My in-laws are German, and live in Bavaria. Unbelievably, my Mother-in-Law swears by the new "McDonald's Cafe." She says they have THE best coffee and cakes...this coming from a woman who is, and always has been, all about Cake and Coffee! My wife is over there right now, I asked her to bring me back a report and pictures of this place, because I just can not imagine that something like this could go over so well in a place like Germany, who pride themselves on their Torts and quality coffee, and have a penchant for turning their noses up at American products, esp. McDonalds. DD

Where in Bavaria do your in-laws live? Just curious as I have relatives on my dad's side in Garmisch and Nuremberg. Can't figure out why your mother in law thinks McDonald's is great on the coffee and cake, since there are much better tortes and cakes to be had I'm sure in the local bakeries.

They are from Guenzburg, on the A-8 right between Ulm and Augsburg. (Location of the newest Legoland!) Listen, my Mother-in-law would be the LAST person I would think to find going to McDonald's for Cake and Coffee. This woman makes 3 or 4 cakes every weekend for Sunday afternoon Coffee. She goes to cafes 2-3 times a week every week. One could say her life revolves around exercise and cakes. That is why it is so surprising. Can't wait for my wife to get back to get the low-down on this place. Now, it is supposed to be much nicer than your typical McDonald's, guess that's why they call it a Cafe. We'll see! DD

(i'm not suggesting that your mother-in-law is knocking back a few of those german beers that they are serving at the mcdonalds over there but if she were I wouldn't blame her...for some reason your story just reminded me of the cough medicine thing)
