This is John from Zoot Candy. Anyone out there ever tried one? If so, what's the experience like? I just started carrying them but am a little squeamish about trying one. I'm not a big dark chocolate fan. Thanks, John Dadlez Zoot Candy

If you are talking about the Idaho Spud candy bar they are quite good. The only link to a real potato is in the appearance and the name. It is dark chocolate covering a creme(white) filling. Not bad at all, But pretty much unknown outside of the region. If I were rating Candy bars that I like when on the road The top of my list would be the GooGoo (pecan) Cluster rated 100+, while the Idaho Spud would be somewhere in the mid-80's.

I try not to sample everything I sell, if I did I'd be hundres of pounds overweight. But, this one does sound interesting.

Dadio, I know you are new on these boards...welcome. Check out the thread about several of us going to meet for brunch on Feb 1st. I mention it because we just decided this morning to use the Mission Inn as the location...that is about as close to you as we can get. Read the thread, and feel free to join in for a good conversation, and some good food too. AL

I know they are made in Boise Idaho. I have bought boxes of them and sent them back home to Indiana. I never ate one tho.

I love Idaho Spud bars! Does anyone know of a place in California that still sells them? Thrifty Drug used to sell them. Then they were bought out by Rite Aid and stopped selling them. I really dislike Rite Aid.

Saint Matt, Bi-Mart in Ashland might be your southern limit, at $.45 always. I'm in the rogue valley, and our Winco gets big bins at $.25 a piece, but only occasionally. It's worth the 375 mile drive, as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not sure the rest of the world agrees.

Thanks for the tip! My parents live in Florence, OR. They have a Bi-Mart there. I'll go to Bi-Mart when I visit the folks for Christmas! Matt

They have a very good candy section, which hits brown and haley things + the annebelle junk I'm sure you can already indulge yourself in. If you haven't ever drive north the 25 miles from Florence, it's worth it to visit Yachats, and take your parents to La Serre. http://www.overleaflodge.com/laserre/ Bill

I got my Idaho Spud fix while in Oregon for Christmas. Good news: they no longer contain hydrogenated oils, so I guess they are a bit healthier than they used to be.

See's Candies of CA sells "potatoes" at St. Patrick's Day time which are made of divinity and dusted with cocoa powder. The "eyes" are pignolas. It's wonderful!
