When I lived outside of Nashville I was introduced to eating cornbread pieces with buttermilk poured over for breakfast ... eaten like you would cereal. 2-day-old semi dried cornbread made with butter and finely chopped onion.
The other occasional breakfast was if we were going fishing, we'd get up early and stop by a particular truckstop off the interstate that served an enormous whole breaded deep fried catfish with fries for cheap ($2.30 in approx 1978) ... made an awesome breakfast.

Had a Boars Head all beef dog with natural skin, spicey mustard, and relish at 6:00am today.
Not a Chicago dog but still very tasty.

"This morning breakfast for me consisted of sardines and sweet onion on toast.I love it !"

Aaargh! The only thing I can think of that is more disgusting is pickled herring. Was forced to taste it when I was about 9 years old and upchucked for about 2 hours. But then.....I used to love my "Busha's" czarnina.....that's duck's-blood soup.

I just thought of a weird breakfast that my grandfather used to eat. He worked the night shift at Armour, so when he awoke, it was around noon, but that was his breakfast. He'd take 2 slices of rye bread and slather them about 1/4 inch thick with pure lard. He'd then salt and pepper them and eat them with his cup of coffee. Surprisingly, he was the picture of health, tall and lean....but he dropped dead of a heart attack at 63. We never could figure why.

Haven't had it in a long time, but a treat for breakfast when I was a kid was pastina with milk and sugar.

Ahhh, early morning Steak Ums. I must try that.

Chili no beans, and fried eggs over easy, is my fav breakfast snack. Oh, maybe a slice of fried ham w/ that.

Breakfast this morning was a cheese and roasted pepper pupusa, a red d'anjou pear, and vegan chocolate chip-peanut butter cookies (somehow when cookies are "vegan" I don't feel so guilty when I eat an entire bag).

And you southerners can have all the grits you want... one of my moms is from Georgia, and I've lived in New Orleans, and no matter how hard I try... can't get my taste buds around it. It's just Cream of Wheat with an intense regional following as far as I'm concerned

With all do respect(as they say in "The Godfather"), I suggest you go to a specialist to get your taste buds checked. Comparing Cream of Wheat to Grits is like comparing used motor oil to Dom Perignon! (Cream of Wheat being used motor oil of course). Besides, Cream of Wheat is made from wheat and grits are the heart and essence of the corn kernnel.

I go to bed at 5 AM, so I don't get up until early afternoon. Breakfast means something went wrong and I didn't get to bed OR some lame idiot woke me up early.

As a southerner by heart living behind enemy lines, I feel it is my duty to warn folks about the dangers of grits. yes, dangers. Because uptight Yankee's will avoid them and they'll remain afforadable to the rest of us.

I always feel weird having a soda before noon...I don't know why that is necessarily...I mean it's got less caffeine than a cup of coffee and I drink diet pop so no sugar....anyone else have that too?

I just had leftover cabbage rolls for breakfast and it's now 6:15am :-)
I just love the sauerkraut I put on the cabbage rolls. I know I eat odd things for breakfast and now I have my son (22yrs old) doing the same thing hahaha. It's not that I don't like the traditional breakfast foods but I just like other foods better for breakfast  lol

                                                        pamelakrest, you sick!

That is one of the most extreme things I've heard for breakfast. I'm a huge cabbage and sauerkraut fan but you take it to a whole new level

Well, I'd have to say that almost anything mentioned sounds good except I've never been in a place where the several Middle Eastern treats were available and I don't much like mince meat pie and cold kraut would probably take a while for me to finish.  But I've had a lot, maybe most, of the things mentioned in the morning.

Its a bummer that my two closest grocers no longer have head cheese in the deli and that its been a long time since I've seen scrapple in either place.

I think one of the really sad breakfasts I ever heard about was the cold left over hot dog and a beer that a friend broke fast on when his wife was out of town.
