If you're using a cane or crutches in winter...

This is the third winter out of the last four I've been on crutches, and I just discovered a thing I really wish someone had told me existed before now...ice tips! They clamp on to a crutch or cane, flip up when not in use so you don't screw up your floors, and flip down so you don't break yourself further when you're walking in snow and ice.

I love them. Found mine for $21.50 for the pair including shipping online (they run $7-$9 each, sold individually), which is kind of pricey but still way cheaper than slipping and falling when I'm already broken. I figured I'd share in case any of you are in the same boat and no one told you such a wonderful gadget exists. :)

Even if you're not on crutches (and hopefully that's the case) but it's a sheet of ice outside strap on a pair of Yaktraks to your boots, shoes, whatever.  I discovered these in Alaska and they are wonderful.

Absolutely! I have those for my boots, too. I've just been screwed with the crutches up until now...and cannot for the life of me figure out why doctors don't tell their patients about these tips. It's heart-stopping when you're relying on something to compensate for a limb you can't use and it slides out from under you. Your options get really few, really fast.

I've used Yaktrax for years. I was at an REI Coop last week and saw there are several competitors now.

If only they made them for crutches and canes...which is why I posted the picture of these ice spikes for crutches.
