I'm a fink.

Had lunch today at a place with a soup and salad bar.
 
Sitting in the booth next to me was an extremely loud and obnoxious woman and her mother.  Everyone in the room could hear her conversation which was not nice to say the least.
 
I was not enjoying my meal just having to listen to her cussing.  I considered getting up and moving but it wasn't worth the effort.
 
When I sat down I noticed that on her table besides 4 plates filled completely with mountains of salad were also 6 soup bowls overfilled with... not soup, but the huge chunks of white meat chicken that were apparently fished out of the soup pot.
 
When her mother got up to get several more bowls of "soup" I watched this woman fill baggies with the chicken.  When she used up all of the baggies she told her mother to go get LOTS of napkins... LOTS.. I mean LOTS... is what she said.
 
She must have had 3 chickens worth of boiled white meat chicken in her purse/pocketbook.
 
I couldn't stand it.  I got up and told the cashier.  She sent several different employees to watch this woman wrap up food.  They had no problem seeing her do this.
 
I left not knowing if anything was done about her stealing of food.
 
Was it my place to turn her in?  I don't know, but I'd do it again.

This woman even mentioned that her dog would have a nice dinner tonight.

I salute you for taking a stand against crudeness and larceny.  I would have done the same thing if I had been there.  As a matter of fact, I did something like that a few years ago.  We were eating at a restaurant when some low-class couple came in.  After a few minutes, the wife went up to the ice cream bar and starting combing her hair, using the bar's mirror to watch her efforts.  I went ballistic and went yelling up to the manager, pointing out the couple in no uncertain terms.  No tact at all, but I was really upset.  The manager went over to the ice cream bar, took a look, and immediately shut it down.  Maybe the woman decided to move out west and bless others by her company.  No, you are not a fink at all.

Marlene, You are such a pushover.  I would have told her(out loud) to shut her filthy trap and to quite raiding the soup pot, ya cheap SOB.  But that's just me

Pushover?  No.  I just don't confront because I'm a chicken.
 
Aha!  Now I know why I was so upset.

This is why  I do not  like to go to restaurants  that  offer  soup and salad  bars, or  buffets.  I  have observed people doing this many times,  and it will never change.
 
I would be willing to bet that management  never said a word to her.

mar52 - Good job!  Only thing better would've been to indiscreetly record a video of the slobs in action. Not only would they have flipped out, they might have stopped their thieving, and you might have had a million hit YouTube video.

I really don't understand how anyone can patronize a buffet-type place, including salad bars or soup bars. I've seen too many people breathe on the displayed food items, grab with their hands, cough on the foods and, well, they don't call it a sneeze guard for nothing. Plus I am sickened by the displays of pure gluttony.

Last summer I had lunch in an very exclusive NYC restaurant with an outdoor terrace. It was right near Central Park, and afflliated with a major hotel (not naming names...)
A middle aged overweight couple approached the Maitre d' and were given a table next to me. They ordered a beverage. They then proceeded to open a large paper bag and take out some "carry out" food. It was pasta, that they slurped right from the metal container.
It was really disgusting; if they wanted a picnic, they should have eaten it in Central Park. 
I called the waiter to complain. He called the maitre d'. They profusely apologized, saying the couple told them they were hotel guests, would it be OK to sit at a table and order beverages. The staff then felt they could not really say anything to them later.
However, the restaurant offered us free cocktails and another apology.
I loved the cocktails but I hope I never see this again. Yuck.

I was cured of eating at buffets the day I saw a man drop a piece of fried chicken on the floor, pick it up and put it back in the bin. Then he got another "clean" piece for his plate. ARGGGHHHH

I go to Mountaingate Restaurant in Thurmont Md. often, they change the BUFFET entrees every day, they always have 2 homemade soups, a great salad bar, very good fried chicken, and sliced Kunzler ham, topnototch. In all the years I've been there, I've never seen any nasty behavior, I don't abide bad behavior and aI'm quite willing to call anyone out. Same for my place, 9+ years, kicked out 2 women who reduced my server to tears, and an EXTREMELY rude couple, just after they paid! The rest of the restaurant patrons applauded when I did! I am many things, chicken ain't one of them...turkey either, just to beat someone to the punch!

Just think Mar, it's almost Mothers Day, she could have been extra nice that day, extra food for Mom. Looks like we have another candidate for Daughter of the year......When I see people like that I'm just happy they aren't related to me............

 From the conversation, it was obvious that she was taking Mommy out for a nice lunch, dinner, lunch, dinner, lunch, dinner and maybe dessert because I didn't stay long enough to watch her bag the muffins.

CTF, Courtney showed up in usual form at the Comedy Central Roast for Pamela Anderson in 2005, staggering about the stage, chain smoking and mumbling incoherently.  One of the comics, Jeffrey Ross, turned to her and said, "Courtney Love, how is it possible that you look worse than Kurt Cobain?"  The ENTIRE room fell silent, then half of it busted out laughing uncontrollably while the other half collectively picked up their jaws from the floor!
