Inconsistent

Buy a 1.75 quart of Breyer's (pretending to be a half gallon) and you're never sure what you're getting. Sometimes, although much less frequently lately, the french vanilla is smooth, creamy and laced with vanilla flavor; othertimes, it crumbles when scooped, has an odd flavor as though it were made by high school home ec students, and is somewhat sickening to eat.

About the best flavor to get is creamy chocolate. Otherwise, forget Breyers.

Have you noticed Breyers seems to be expanding their shelf space in Kroger's and Safeway grocery stores?

I've always attributed that crumbly texture and off-taste to poor refrigeration (i.e. warming then re-freezing) causing formation of ice crystals. It's always seemed that Breyers and others with a high air content are more susceptible.

Any of the I.C. experts have insight on this?

Also, crappy maintenance on the part of the stores.. I have seen icicles and frost on lots of frozen food. And it isnt from a power being off, or people leaving the doors open....Not ice like what I have seen...
I run away to the next store when I see that crap.
Poor management to leave the food there so that some sap will but it..the manager is hoping not to get canned from having to lose foods because he doesnt maintain his store properly.

you can also achieve the same effect of crumbly ice-cream, by not making the ice cream your last purchase at the store and the first item in the freezer. Also, be sure to keep your frozen foods together in the cart, and have the store paper bag them together to keep them cool.

We've stopped buying Breyers. I totally agree, the flavors have become plasticky and the texture crumbly. I think in the case of Breyer's, it's the product, not the store, that's to blame.

I agree, there can't be that many faulty Freezers and why would it not effect all brands of Ice Cream.
I will not even buy Breyers anymore. I just can't eat it.
