Indian Salmon

I just had lunch at Tamarind, a good (East) Indian restaurant in NYC. The appetzer featured salmon, which I never considered an Indian food (salmon in the Indian Ocean?).But it was wonderful. There were a few pieces of grilled salmon with Indian spices and two small sauces, one of coriander/cilantro and the other of spicy chili. Very nice. Has anyone else had salmon in an Indian restaurant?

I order Tandoori Salmon quite often. I love it. I make it at home, too. Mix about a half cup of non-fat plain Greek yogurt with an equal amount of Tandoori Paste. Slather on Salmon and let sit in the fridge overnight. Cook in a blazing hot cast iron skillet or on a flattop. It's wonderful. By the way, Tamarind is an OUTSTANDING restaurant.

I have seen salmon on the menu in a few Indian restaurants only in the past six months, or so (NYC/Westchester County). I also did a bit of a double-take. I asked one of the proprietors, who said they are just trying to keep the customers happy. And so goes the cross-pollination of cultures. Personally, I'm looking forward to tandoori pastrami. Ron

In Roadfood terms, I live within a short stroll of Ess-a-Bagel, Katz's, Crif Dogs, Una Pizza, Shake Shack, and about a billion places not yet explored. Tamarind is just down the street.

We;re almost neighbors. I'm nearer to BastaPasta, Sammy's Noodles, Murrays Bagels and, so sad, Sucelt, which just closed after 31 yrs. I'm also deep in Tastee-D-Lite territory
