Indiana and western Ohio

I'll be driving through here for a business trip next week. What's good from Indianapolis and Dayton north to the Michigan state line? For those who like old-fashioned, small-town type of stops, try Mrs Wick's Pies in Winchester, Ind. It's off the beaten path, but worth a side trip.

The Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshawana (probably spelled the name wrong) is tough to beat. The town is pretty much what I would call a tourist trap though. Wally

Right around Celina/Lake St Mary's OH area is a little tavern called Arnold's. They serve excellent tenderloins. Also, in Greeneville, OH is a local legend, the Maid-Rite. Tradition is that you stick gum to the side of the building when you go thru the drive-thru. Been in business at least 70 years. carl reitz

Nancy's Restaurant located in the Days Inn on RT 66 in Defiance Ohio has some great food and yummy pies , including a hickory nut pie, chess pie and buttermilk pie.......along with the usual suspects. Very reasonable prices , also.

I drove through a great little midwestern town this week, Bucyrus, OH. I stopped at a superb little deli, Carle's Bratwurst. Man, this place made so many homemade sausages and hot dogs it was hard to choose which ones to buy. Also had homemade cookies and pies. I bought an oatmeal pie. Ever had one? Place was awesome. carl reitz

Also in Greenville, Ohio, Vint's Family Restaurant (1226 Sweitzer St./OH 49 south of the Darke County Fairgrounds and north/west of the US 127 bypass across from McDonald's--look for the green and yellow sign) is worth mentioning. I love their fried chicken and rolls!
