Its a great race weekend, Indy, Monaco, and I forget whatever nascar race is on.. Who's watching/ going? Any special food in store?

My yacht is in the shop so I won't be in Monaco, so I'll be watching that and the 500 while smoking beef brisket for my wife's birthday party....

Oh, and I am pulling for Robert Doornbos, Rafa Matos, Graham Rahal or even that pesky Danica to win at Indy. I'm all excited about the new blood in the league...Heck I would be tickled if Sarah Fisher won...

As far as Monaco...go team Brawn..Go Jensen Button and Rubins Barrichello

    Nascar, go anyone but shrub..!

I will be watching the 500. I will check in on the World 600, I have never watched the whole thing especially with the crappy FOX coverage. I'm too lazy to get up and watch the F1 race.
Indy- Kanaan, Tags, or Fisher although a Penske car will win.
Charlotte- No Gibbs, Hendricks, Penske or Roush. Anyone else fine. Bill elliot would be great but it won't happen.
F1- anyone but Ferrari or McLaren

Oh yea, no special food. I'll probably hit Wendys just before the 500 and fry up a chicken breast during the 600 start.

I'd love for Sarah to win, but I'd be happy with Rahal, too. And a victory by Patrick would be fabulous.

Of course, I'm a homer. Sarah's from just south of me, Rahall is a neighbor, and Patrick got her first ride from Rahal's father Bobby, who won his Indy driving for Jim Trueman, who lived just a few miles from me.

God bless Jim Trueman, he was a real sportsman! I loved to see how he supported the racing scene..

Brawn GP 1-3 on the grid at Monaco...What do Monacans eat for breakfast...crepes? I have to get some kind of food theme going here...Though I haven't checked to see who is broadcasting the race or when...

I'm in Indianapolis right now. Yesterday was spent at the track watching practice with all 33 cars and then the Miller Lites Freedom 100 race. Afterwards we had a brew at the Camp and Brew RV gathering at Georgetown Rd and 25th Street and donated to a good cause Brian's Wish for fighting ALS. Last night was our annual 1962 Speedway Sparkplugs Reunion with attendees from Florida, California and several other states. Tomorrow, the race, and I will be in the Northwest Vista stands in the 4th turn. I think this is my 13th straight race since I resumed after an absence durning most of the 70s, 80s and early 90s. I attended most of the Indy 500s during the glory years from the early 50s to 1968.

A few million people get Versus. It's on Time Warner Cable.

we have not so Brighthouse Cable here. but Speed channel is on basic cable here.
I've never heard of Versus until the Indy cars went with them this year.
                      I do miss watching them.

Hey Versus does an excellent job they have the Ligner group doing production..Reminds my of the heyday of CART.

Well I watched as much of Monaco as I could...I started to smoke my brisket, and decided to braise the other one, also using a DinosaurBBQ recipe. I chopped the veggies while I watched the race. Go Brawn !! Great race!

                        Next-up the 500!

Can't say I was rooting for Helio. Happy to see Danica on the podium, would liked to have seen more on-track passing.

I watched Monaco off and on....can't get too interested in it as I have a hard time calling it a "race". If you can get a half of a car lead in the first few seconds of the event, barring  mechanical break-down , crash or a bunch of dimwits in the pits, you've got the thinh won. I think a good race track should be wide enough to allow all kind of passing.

To the guy who said his boat was in the shop, they said that those happy sailors were charged $30, 000 to dock their toys in that harbor....some recession, huh?

Monaco is notoriously hard to pass, Ahh. but watch closely and there were passes. The In-car cameras alone are worth watching...my god what an amazing lap around that place. I'm not sure if there were any more passes at Indy...well, I'm sure there were more, but none as exciting.... Charlotte on the other had had rain...silly oval racers can't race in rain..

For pure racing excitement I'll take sprint cars on a half mile dirt track every time. F1 and even Indy racing are getting a little too techy for me.

                                    Cosmos,

There is plenty of on track passing. TV just doesn't pick it up very well. I watched the Indy 500 from turn 4 where most of the crashes occurred and could see the problems developing coming out of turn 3. Passing at Indy can be scary and exciting to watch. What TV does not show is the tremendous amount of passing going on by most of the field in very close traffic racing. They tend to follow the leaders and once a leader gets out front with no traffic it becomes difficult to catch him. The only time a leader gets passed seems to be on a yellow caution restart. Indy cars go about 50 mph faster than NASCAR at IMS. The NASCAR Brickyard 400 race seems like a parade on a yellow caution lap to me in comparison.

I much prefer to watch racing in person and track cars in the field that are making dramatic moves up in traffic. The track has big jumbotrons for watching the TV broadcast at the same time.

It was a story book race with Helio Castroneves winning his third after being in trouble with the Feds on tax evasion charges (acquited last month). He is a very popular driver with the fans. Danica Patrick is proving she is a major contender and not a fluke. Sarah Fisher and Milka Duno finished the race. Sarah could be just as competitive if she had a better car. She owns her on team and is basically driving cast-off equipment that she can barely afford to put together. Duno was just marking time trying to stay out of trouble. My pool money was riding on Dario Franchitti. He was done in by one stinkin' lousy pit stop.

You are right Davydd, TV coverage usually ruins a good race. I will be flagging them at the Glen, problem with that is I have to focus my attention on a short piece of track to do my job correctly. I hope I get a good corner this year!

Wish I had seen this thread in time.

I did a 12 pound pork shoulder from a locally raised pig that had been fed on acorns all winter long to fatten him up.  Actually that was just half of it, the other half I vacuum sealed  and froze.

The half we did took about 14 hours , but my trusty WSM was great.  It was 8 hours before I needed fo even worry about fuel.

For a changeup, I made a coffee based sauce similar to the one in "Smokestack lightnin" though with more cider vinegar and spice, but I didn't sauce the meat much while cooking because I was just tuckered out.

That must have been the best BBQ I ever did. That local farm raised pork was succulent and the smoke was just right.  My wife raved about it for over a week :)

Of course there was much race watching over that weekend too, even with the Coke 600 rained delayed then rain shortened.

Sounds like great stuff! It was a great day for smoking...my brisket turned out great too
