Is it a chain?

The current Gourmet mag has a nice piece on Marlon Abdela, who at the tender age of 30, owns some world class restaurants, inculuding Gaia in Greenwich, CT, and The Greenhouse in London. He plans to open 40 more over the next 5 years. Were he to open a RF type place, along with all the other stuff he does, would you try it out, or would you avoid it as part of a "chain".

Who cares? If you think the food is good, go. If you don't think it is good, don't go.

I would not consider this man's restaurants to be part of any chain. The man is an entrepreneur, a businessman, whose field happens to be resaurants. In the Columbus, Ohio area a man named Cameron Mitchell, a CIA graduate, and member of the CIA board, left his position as a chef to open a restaurant. It was and is very successful. He has since acquired financing and has opened at least 10 other successful restaurants. He does not run a chain. He runs a number of very good restaurants.

Thats an interesting premise Michael. We have a Mitchell's in Louisville. I wonder how often Cameron makes his presence known some distance from his core business address (200+ miles). I will NOT attempt to define chain vs owner-operated.
Like several folks above have said, If it's good chow I don't count the number of units in the business.

As a matter of fact, Cameron is there once a month, but he has people from Columbus thre every week. Daughter No. 2 happens to work for him. She's been there several times. By the way, everything is prepared from scratch, on site at all of his restaurants.
