We will be going to Istanbul, Athens, Alexandria, Naples, Rome and a couple of other cruise stops in October. The only thing I definitely have planned at this time is an absolute must stop for pizza in Naples.

If you have the time I'd recommend going to the market there and walking around the town.

Spent two weeks eating my way through Istanbul over the turn of the year. I've put up a ton of reviews on www.chowpapi.com Must visits: Ciya on the Asian side, Zubeyir in Beyoglu neighborhood, Doyuran Lokantasi in Kumkapi neighborhood, Adem Baba in Arnavutkoy, Ismet Baba on the Asian Side, Pera Sisore in Asmalımescit... tons of others. Also, check out the Istanbul Eats website. It was my guide to eating through the Istanbul underground. You will have the time of your life. The Turks are the nicest, kindest folks you could ever hope to meet and nobody parties like Istanbullus.

I'm sure you'll find "lamb fries" everywhere.

I suggest that you not eat at the roadside kabob stands in Turkey. As appealing as these are, the hygiene standards are not necessarily up to par. I speak from experience. There are of course many wonderful sit down restaurants, and I've learned to stay with these.

No kabobs, but I did partake in Simit from this guy's sidewalk stand in Istanbul. That's kind of a Turkish pretzel. They are everywhere.
