It Was So Hot ...

How hot was it? Well, according to one Kentucky farmer, it was so hot his corn on the cob was popping on the stalk.

That story (or one like it) made the Louisville TV news last week.

I had a limb snap on my power line to the house and knocked out the power for 3 days during that stretch of heat we had.  I thought my popcorn in the cabinet was going to pop as well.

Unfortunately we are not going to have a very colorful fall leaf season here in SE Indiana, considering everything is BROWN already!!

One of the things I really love about this time of year is the sight of the brown cornfields. It means the doves are going to feed, the deer are going to be hanging around, and the squirrels just might be plentiful.

The 75000 or so deer on my property, only care about my more expensive annuals and leaving some ticks behind as a way of saying thanks, both my much loved pups got lyme disease this year. Personally I wish the season was open all year. I love Bambi and all, but the damn Deer are turning into majestic rats!

I loved Bambi, too. He was delicious. His mommy ws even more tasty.

That's a damned shame about your pups coming down with Lyme disease.

    TJ,
Yeah, Paula Dean was here earlier this week to open the remodeled and renamed (for her) Buffet restaurant at the local Riverboat Casino. it was Caesar's, then Balley's, now it is "The Horseshoe". SSDD.
We have yet to try Paula's new franchise, but will sometime soon. The boat is only about 10 minutes (down the hill) for us.
Our gripe with the Boat's Buffet is not with the food or service, but with the odor of stale tobacco that is very strong thru-out the building.

Bob Hope, or was it Jack Benny, told that joke about the corn popping---
and that was a long, long time ago.

Deer are a pain in the butt---they ate my whole garden one year, and it was fenced.  Came out in the morning and it was gone.

It was so hot that I saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking.
