Our daytime temps for the last 15 days or so have been anywhere from 95 to 106 - and that's not including the heat index - which last Thursday was determined to be at 117.

I can't keep all the flowers and plants watered enough - every day they're wilted and asking for a drink.  The water garden has become a magnet for the squirrels, birds, frogs and bees looking for moisture.

We're pretty much roasting here in the Delta - it was 91 just now when I let the Bailey out for the last potty run tonight.
Tomorrow - 102 again and again the promise of a stray thunderstorm.
I'm longing for fall - temps in the 50's at night and most importantly  - college football.

This time of the year, we're 105-114 DAILY!
    And that's in the shade!
Don't believe that, "Yeh, but it's a dry heat crap"!
When you breathe in, you scorch your lungs!
Night time lows in the mid 80's.

Our temps are like yours, Baileysoriginal. I'm in Jackson MS.  We also have the humidity in the 80's. Somehow, though, the Delta feels hotter than anywhere else!

All official temps are shade temps.
And, yes, there is a huge differnce between humid heat versus dry heat.  This is entry level meteorology 101 stuff.
A cousin who lives in your area in Chandler, AZ felt much more uncomfortable on his  visit to the Washington, DC area during a heat wave than he says he feels at home in AZ in their highest heat.    I concur.  I felt more comfortable when visiting AZ in July than I do in the mid-Atlantic heat waves.
The "heat index", which figures in humidity, hit 134.6 a couple weeks ago in Warrenton, VA.     Sweating in the east doesn't really help, as the air is so saturated with moisture that you don't get the benefit of evaporative cooling.

The evaporative cooling is so effective in AZ that some buildings' cooling systems out there use a cooling tower of cascading water that evaporates and cools the surroundings.  That would never work in the east.

I'll take the humidity we have in Daytona over the humidity they have in the northeast that you can SEE in the air.

We got a small reprieve last night - lots of lightning and thunder - only 1/4" of rain but we'll take it.  Only 95 today but the humidity was bad.  It's still the Summer From Hell.
