It's 5am and I can't sleep

Don't you hate that? I wanted to be up by 9am to start baking (the cookie project is happening tomorrow...I'm looking at something like 18 dozen cookies and two loaves of bread, and if you're wondering I have in fact completely lost my mind), but I've not gotten to sleep yet. Just needed to whine a little.

5 am is sleeping in around here. My partner gets up at 4:20 am every day to go to the gym, I always wake because of the shuffling around so I get up and am online at 4:30.

asleep at 11-11:30pm up at 7am during the week asleep at 12am-1am up at 8am-9am on the weekend like clockwork all the time, every time. It's completely incomprehensible to me how people can't get sleep.

If any of you are on a beta blocker--since I started taking one last summer I have noticed about once every two weeks or so there's a little two hour stretch in the middle of the night that I'm wide awake. Bummer.

It was 5am and I couldn't sleep either. Feeding a 12 week old.

Finally dropped off a little after 6:30. I just got my butter out of the fridge to soften, so it looks like it'll be at least 1pm before I can even start mixing dough. I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again tonight. Last night was inconvenience for today. Tomorrow I have to work from 8am to 11pm.

This may not work for you, but it works everytime for me: Eat a small (about two scoops) of vanilla ice cream with whatever you like on it. I usually have Smuckers butterscotch and a few pecans. After that, I go right to sleep. Not good for the waist line, but I sleep like a baby.

Up at 4:30 or 5 AM like clockwork to take a whiz (something about the "golden years" I think) and often have a tough time getting bact to sleep.

I'm like wanderingjew - I'm asleep by 10 to 10:30 pm on weekdays and up at 5:30 am - Weekends and holidays I usually sleep in until 7 or so - even if I'm up later than normal the night before. My only gripe is that, no matter what - early Monday morning I'll start waking up at anywhere from 2am on - knowing I have to get up and go to work - I can't blame it on hating my job because I don't and it doesn't happen any other day of the week.

I usually turn out the lights at 11 PM after about a half hour of book reading and wake up naturally at 7 AM thus now getting a full 8 hours of sleep. I thought when I retired I would become a night owl but it hasn't happened after nearly two years. When I worked I did lights out at 11 but always got up at 5 AM by the alarm clock.

My sleep schedule is 847 kinds of screwed up. Left to my own devices, I sleep naturally from 7am to 2pm. However, there's this work thing that keeps insisting on interfering... Here it is a little after 1:30am again and I worked 8am to 11pm as planned on three hours' sleep, but yet I'm still not tired. Luckily, I'm off until 6:30pm Friday. I envy people who have an actual schedule. Mine is SO all over the range of possibilities I don't know if I'm coming or going half the time.

I'm up because I forgot to mention chopped garlic in one of my pizza recipes and it was bugging me.

2:45 am; F-ing cat attacks wife's foot...wife bolts upright and screams, leaving me awake with tortured stress visions dancing in my head.... 4:30; said cat begins mewing and poking me to let her out, I would normally strike her with something near at hand, but have previously decided I should just get up and go to work. 4:45; Said cat is startled at the front door realizing that it has snowed last night and is bitterly cold, she backs into my waiting hands which deftly scoop her up and toss her deservedly out into the snow. 5:45; Said cat yelps at me as I let her in on my way out to work. 6:15; I am making coffee in my quiet office, beginning to plot the death of my stress visions...(and cat).

I remember getting about 4 hours of sleep per night during my last year of architecture school, and walking around like a zombie. I remember stressing out when I was up with my infant daughter, thinking that I should be sleeping and not cradling my cranky kid. Now I am 51 and routinely only get 4-5 hours of sleep, it still sucks, but somehow I function..

Finally!!! I fell asleep for what I thought was going to be a nap yesterday afternoon around 4:30pm. Woke up at 5:45am starving, so made some breakfast and read a book, figuring I'd read until the rest of the world woke up. Started feeling tired again, and slept again from about 7am until just shy of 11am. Dunno what it was keeping me up, but apparently either it went away or my system decided it was going to shut down for a while anyway. I wonder if I'll sleep at all this weekend now...
