It's strange that I would see this today, more sad then anything. - Thu, 06/11/09 4:01 PM ( #1 )
I was speaking in another thread just today about other doggers, etc and I ran into this guy today while we both were picking up supplies. Now I will be the first to admit I am a neat freak, this is something I have been dealing with for most of my adult life so it IS possible that I may over react at times to what I feel is a lack of effort. Having said that I will wait to see what you think of this set up because I may be over reacting.

The pictures DO NOT do this setup justice as the camera is not a high rez camera and does not show clearly what the eyes saw in person. This set up was up and running because I could see steam coming from from the pans. Pay attention to the area NOT rusted, the black crud build up for lack of a better term, we all know what this is from, the second the juice run off from a pan or lid hits the hot steel it starts to get dark and black throughout the day. I spend much time at the end of each day scrubbing this off and keeping everything cleaned up and it takes me 1 hour at the end of the day to clean this up properly; this is after loading and un loading and working a full day so I can soooooo see someone not feeling like doing it and letting it go. Before you know it, it is so far gone you don't want to deal with it. I just have to much of my hard earned money into my unit and company to not take care of my things so this is an example of me just not understanding the point of view of this owner. Notice the tongs hanging from the cart, these look to hang there while going down the road. How would you like a dawg served with those??? Don't matter huh?

Notice the gal of water jug that has NO TOP on it that I'm sure it is used to poor water into something for steam or cooking. Mind you this cart is un attended (parked) and the store is a block away (big parking lot) so anything be it a bug or what ever can land on the lid or in the jug. You may not see it but the jug is brown and dinjy, I would not want any water from that jug for sure. I could see the brown in person but maybe it wont show up in the thread here. The coolers look way more dirty than the pics show, everyplace I looked on the cart was text book what not to do. I'm glad I saw it today because it helps to remind me of what my supplies can and will look like if I do not keep on my game. When I'm dead tired I will pull out these pics to help further motivate me to clean up anyway! I will leave the rest for you to point out from the pics anything you notice.  Ohhh, lastly I think I saw this guy while getting supply's in the store, we were the only two in the section loading up things first thing during business hours customer use only. If it was him he looked totally clean, farely neat and did not look out of place or anything. Go figure. I await your feedback.

And now for the pics.........

That is disgusting.  Hopefully the health department in his area will see the cart and take some action.

Our health department would remove my certificate and not issue another one if my equipment looked like that....and  I would have to jump thru some serious hoops to ever get another health inspection.

Yeah you and me both! No way of knowing what area he is from and I did not think to look at the tag because it may not have been from Md (Pa and DE are close as well) I thought it was disgusting too, the other question is how does a customer walk up and see that unit and still order let alone eat from it? How does that happen? I must admit I was rushing with the pics because I did not want the person to come out and get defensive. I should have got in the back of my cab to have a higher point of view to shoot down to see the work area better and what was in that storage area. Oh well, you guys get the point.

I hate to harp on a previous thread of mine, but that is a horrible design especially from a sanitation point of view. It's a street cart that's been jammed onto a trailer. It's nothing but cracks and crevices! The best thing to do would be to steam-clean it every night. That thing would never pass inspection here.

I asked the exact same question above and was hoping to get someone to explain how that process works. For the life of me I cant imagine anyone eating from it but they clearly do. This is what I said in another thread, that because in an area where they have nothing to compare and they all are cruddy (the doggers) and have been that way for a long time people don't expect anything better and have nothing to compare it to. I don't know but that is my guess. I truly don't understand it so I can only guess.

Lastly, I just noticed there was a bottle of some cleaning agent hanging? Did you see that? I really, really, really am starting to thing that is a urine bottle unless it is orange glow. There is no cleaning going on there!

You want to know where the perfect spot is?  Anywhere within a couple of blocks of that guy!

If you showed up with a shiny clean cart and sold Walmart hot dogs, you could probably take any of the business he might have.

Excellent point, however he can pull off when ever he is ready or tired of trying to compete due to the trailer set up. Us regular cart guys aren't going anywhere quickly lol.

I'd be willing to bet that since it's a cart stuffed into a trailer, the average customer who's not checking out the cleanliness of his equipment wouldn't notice much if any of that crap except maybe for the dirty windows, and probably just assume the ice chests are clean on the inside.

Not to mention when he's standing there in the middle, it probably blocks even more of it from view.

Either that or some people seriously just don't care and would eat a big mac with mud on it and not complain.

And I thought I was horrible for forgetting to put my gloves on at first last week on my first day. I feel much better now.

Guess who I ran into today?? Yep, our buddy, when I saw the trailer setting in the lot I thought to myself now we will get a second look a few weeks later. I am very happy to say they cleaned it up some, they must have read what you guys had to say. I feel there is more to be done but I give them credit, they ARE going in the right direction! Now this is the part that got me so listen up.

So I am remembering all the things you guys had to say before (scroll up and read) so I'm thinking I am going to maybe strike up some convo with the guy to see if it is his unit or if he is working for someone and what area. I step in the store, head straight to the vendor section and low and behold there is our buddy just like last time, he is turning the corner coming out as I am turning to go in (to the isle) he caught me off guard so we passed each other in a mila sec without words as I was emailing the new pics to myself and he was shopping. Anyway, I say to myself 4get it and just get my supllies, takes me all of 4 minutes as I know what I came for. No looking around, straight to my items and I'm gone. So I get in line to wait to pay, I see our friend still walking around with his cart packed with items (lots of chips) so he looks as if he will be longer shopping. I am standing behind another customer (looks like a mom and daughter,39 and 22) maybe? My turn comes, I pay and head out, walking behind the two chics I mentioned before. We walk together through the lot and I turn off to my truck as they keep going, I am looking at them continue on because only two vehicles are up that way, some small car and you guessed it; the trailer. Sure enough the two females were the ones in the trailer, I about fellover in the parking lot trying to open my door, I could not belive it was them with that trailer. I had to drive past them to be sure there was not another small car beside the trailer I could not see. Nope, I wtched them load up the tow vehicle with all the supplies they had purchased. You would have never thought in a million years it belonged to them. The youger girl was dressed nice like a typicle young person in shorts and a shirt, the older one was dressed fine as well. This just goes to show you that you cant assume its a guy behind something messy, it could be a female! So the guy I saw in the store this time AND last time is just another vendor of some sort that just happens to shop the days I do. Go figure. Anyway here are the pics from today, if you match them up you can compare before and after, again I see they have made some progress. Almost there! The next run in will be the time when we will see how it looks. Third time will be the charm! I am routing for them now. :-) I also confirmed it is tagged for Maryland but I do not know which county. Thanks for reading..

Hey, I can see through the glass now!EDIT- after looking at the old picture the looks about the same. You agree?

Again, I see progress! Not quite where it needs to be but progress all the same.

Other side.

Not sure what this is, maybe storage?

Coolers need more attention, The sun and angle made the others look cleaner then they were. Cleaner than before though.

Wow.  Guess you can't always assume that a mess was made by a man.  That is surprising that it was 2 nicely dressed women.  That would probably explain why they are able to sell from that cart!

After i thought about it again I guess it is still possible that the guy I saw shopping and loading up his cart inside was with these two. It is possible that he sent them ahead to start loading up with the one cart. I did not consider that because he was not in line paying but was still shopping. Anything is possible I guess....The next time I see that trailer will be the test, either it will be the same girls or the same guy or both; either way we should know next time a little more about which of them is running it.

Do you think the unit looks better at all on the newer pics than the prior? Or does it look about the same? Just curious..

Still doesn't look very good.  All they would need to do is pressure wash the thing and it would probably look great.

The tongs still dangling from the bar makes my stomach tingle in the wrong way.
