Jack In The Box newbie

I've never been to a JITB but upcoming holiday travels will probably afford me an opportunity to do so. Is there anything unique about the food there, or is it by and large similar to other burger chains'? Do any menu items stand out? Thanks. Brad

Brad, The two/99 cent Tacos are what I look for when visiting an area with a Jack-in-the-Box. If you appreciate the White-Castle Sliders, You will LOVE the JIB Taco's. Greasy, deep-fried, unidentified mystery mix inside, but Lord above They are the food of the Gods!! I love to get 6 or 8 of them and munch them for a lunch. "Good" is a relative term and very subjective, but this Junkfood has an appeal all it's own. To compare with any 'real' Mexican food is to dishonor both sides of the issue. It really is a White-Castle sort of cult-following! They do have some pretty fair burgers also...but I haven't had one in 15 years. I AM a JIB TACO FAN !

Al told you right Brad, yep, those tacos are a clissic! I add some of their hot sauce inside mine. Improv, I might have to try a sourdough thing. Joe

Brad, most of the menu items have some unique quotient. Spicy curly Fries are always good. The Tacos. Sometimes there's a 3 cheese burger. I'd order 1 of everything on the 99C menu.(I have before-Breakfast Jack rocks!) And don't forget-24 hours and cooked after you order. Takes a little longer, but worth the wait. And get an antenna ball or 2. http://students.depaul.edu/~tosgood/ball.jpg

Jack in the Box also has the best fast food shakes. I'm partial to the Oreo one, but they are all good. I'm also a fan of the Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger, as the name implies, it's a bacon cheeseburger for bacon lovers. I second the motion on the curly fries.

JITB is better than most fast food, everything is cooked to order and i've rarely had to send anything back. they have very good breakfast sandwiches, the tacos are classic, good salads and burgers. much better than mcd's or burger king imho.

I gotta agree, the tacos are something special, total junk food but still good. The last time I had any was about 3 years ago in Nashville. MikeS.

The tacos are good, and ask for some of the house dressing to dip them in. I saw a friend of mine do it once, and thought they were nuts but tried it myself and its really actually pretty good.

Jack in the Box has not been in my area (and I guess the entire northeast) for decades now and I only ate there 1 time before the chain closed up those east coast locations. So, I have only 1 JITB memory as a child. And no, unfortunately, it's not a good one. My father and I to this day still remember ordering a taco for the very first time there and eating them in the car while parked on the parking lot. And both of us immediately got sick, opened our car doors (almost simultaneously actually) and both of us threw up on the parking lot. This was long before the days when lawyers ruled the world, so of course we just drove home and didn't even tell my mother about it. I was kind of young at the time, so I don't really know if we both got food poisoning or the food just tasted that bad to us. I doubt it was food poisoning because we both felt fine the next day, but who knows. It just wasn't a good experience, but that was more than 20 years ago, so I'd imagine the chain is better these days, hopefully. At least everybody else here seems to think so. If there were any on the east coast, I'd be willing to put aside that childhood scare and try it again. Well, maybe. :-)

Onion rings, hands down the best in the fast food industry. I fell in love with them back in 1966 and my ardour hasn't dimmed the slightest in the intervening years. Usually 3 or 4 bags with a burger or a taco are my fix. I just wish they'd bring back the Frings.

We've been eatting at JIB since the early 70's. Our favorites are the tacos, onion rings, spicy fries & breakfast sandwiches. I also miss the frings, it was a order of fries & onion rings in the same package. Best of both worlds. IMO the tacos have been pretty consisent. Eatting late night food at JIB brings back fond memories of late night partying and care free days before marriage & kids.

I've been eating at JB since the fifties. I think I know why their tacos are so consistent. They placed one ENORMOUS order in 1959, and are still serving them. What else could account for the fact that the price is exactly the same as it was 40 years ago?

I almost never go to JIB (health concerns), but when I do I go all out! My favorite is their double cheeseburger combo, with 2 beef patties, veggies, and cheese. YUM

What I like about Jack in the Box is they have a slightly more diverse menu than other fast food chains. I like going there when I'm not sure WHAT I want but no matter what I always get the two tacos.

They have quite a few here in the San Antonio and surrounding area. I sometimes get the big Texas cheeseburger($1.29 ,with tax comes to $1.40) I often buy the two tacos and a 99cent burger for a cheap lunch. Their Fajita Pita made with chicken is good. Never gotten sick at the one in Universal City. Also, speaking of chains, saw an add on tv for Taco Cabana last night and they now serve smoothies and slushes. For those not from Texas,Taco Cabano is a Tex mex food chain started right here in San Antonio. They have a better menu that Taco Bell.

Well, it took me a year to get there but I finally visited Jack in Troy, Illinois this past weekend and had a junior bacon cheeseburger and a couple of tacos. The cheeseburger was decent; not spectacular and not awful, and not something I'd go out of the way for. Actually, if I was hungry and FF was my only option I'd probably opt for a McDonald's $1 double cheeseburger instead. But still, it did the job. The tacos were tasty, though, and way better than Taco Bell (a place I truly can't stand). I was surprised at the level of heat; not that they were all that hot but I was concerned they might be really bland. I can see why they're a popular item. Brad

Due to my wife's illness, I was in Houston for six months. There were numerous JIB around the medical complex. The Mayor had suggested that I try their taco's and they were pretty good. I had them several evenings with my libation. Their burgers were OK and I had them numerous times over the six months. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I have a friend who still lives in New Jersey who remembers Jack In the Box tacos, before the franchise became defunct in that state. He is now devising a way where I can ship him those tacos from New Mexico to New Jersey. It was one of his favorite food memories as a youth. As for myself, I've tried them, and they are ok, but living in New Mexico, I can just get much better product locally.

My favorite thing about JITB is their "jack balls".... (aka : car antenna balls) I was just in Las Vegas for 10 days and stocked up on some new ones for my car, and for some "stocking stuffers" for friends. One gal depends on me to supply her with fresh ones. The 2nd best thing about JITB is that their drive thrus are usually open 24 hours, so it comes in handy in a fix... plus , they occasionally have a good kids toy .. other than that, they are really just okay... also, I never forgave them for getting rid of their "secret jack sauce" about 7 years or so ago.. they just use ketchup on their jumbo jack instead now; it makes it taste even more mediocre.

Their taco's are good, but the fajita pita's are the best. Wish I lived near a JITB now, they're the best of all the FF's.
