Is this chain still around? I live on the east coast and have not seen one for a very long time. If it is around, where are they now. Thanks! Conrad

L o l Al! Some of my teen aged grandzillas, even the two girls, can down a dozen of those greasy delights. Six is about it for me. Without the beer I might could do a dozen? Guess I'll never know. Joe

Nothing closer here than Page, AZ, which I've never even HEARD of. Still, I might be willing to drive that far to have an ultimate cheeseburger again. It's been probably more than 5 years.

Pwinger, Go back to my May trip Report (the Utah Park Tour) and check the section about Monument Valley and Page, AZ and Lake Powell. We stayed a couple of nights at a very nice Day's Inn in Page. At the edge of its parking lot was the Jack in the Box you found listed. It was the source of those greasey little Tacos that are the source of all life ! Whatta Find...and within walking distance for me !! I might consider moving in to that Motel if we ever go back to that area.

Love those greasy, cheap tacos. Anyone tried any of their ciabbata burgers/chicken sandwiches?

I have tried their ciabbata sandwiches, they are alright but not so good as to be worth the price. Their sub like sandwiches are pretty good. They have imo the best fries around. I hear they use animal fat to fry them in, that should give my cholesterol medicine a workout. joe

There was a JIB in NYC (on Staten Island) in the early 70's. It closed and the building remained vacant for quite some time. I was told that Ralston/Purina owned the chain.

The chain was once operated by Ralston Purina, but was sold off many years ago...I'm pretty sure Jack in the Box is a public company now. BTW, does anyone else remember when they tried to change their name back in the 80s to shake the clown image? The name for awihle was changed to "Monterrey Jack's," and there was an ad campaign featuring Ray Charles promoting the change, which lasted only a few months, as I recall.

the monterrey jack's change lasted about 6 months in washington.. i remember they changed all of the colors to blue, and all of the buns to kaiser rolls (except for the jumbo jack and hamburger/cheeseburger) but i also remember that the quality of the food really improved around that time. happily, when they changed the name back to jitb the quality changes remained, but the clown at the drive-thru was gone forever...:(

I find this thread hilarious - I loooooove Jack tacos, but I'm the only person that I know who does. My family and friends all find them beyond disgusting. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone...

When I moved to Denver in 1988, my first job there was actually at a Jack-In-The-Box. I worked at the JITB that was on the intersection of South Broadway and Evans. I know the chain left Colorado years ago, wonder whatever became of the building that used to house my place of employment? Interesting it wasn't long before the hired me that a tornado touched down and almost destroyed that restaurant and the furniture store next door to it ( EMW Furniture ). Anyway the food I can recall was good, well most of the time anyway. I think JITB were among the first to offer grilled chicken sandwiches, at least in Denver anyway.

We do not have them in Knoxville but there are a bunch of them in Houston where I have been since September. I have tried their burgers and taco's. I cannot complain about anything but I did not rate them super. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

That's why I equate the JIB Taco's to the White Castle Sliders. Actually they are not similiar in ANY WAY except the IMAGE!! Either you love them beyond belief or you think they are the worst thing to ever eat. There are NO SHADES OF GREY with these little guys! If you approach them with the same attitude that you do the Sliders, you will enjoy every morsel, or you will barf after the first bite ! It is all relative. I do know that next week, in addition to some great Texas BBQ and some wonderful Czech treats, we will FEAST on a bag of JIB TACOS! That ceremony will probably take place in the privacy of our motel room and We Will share the good stuff with our pooches!

I would like to thank the fine posters of this site for turning me on to JIB tacos. I recently moved out west from the midwest, and hadnt seen a JIB since I lived in West Texas in 79,80, back in the days when you ordered from a clowns head. Anyway, I am not much of a fast food fan, but those cheap azz tacos really do hit the spot on occasion, as has been stated in a White Castle burger sort of way. A welcome relief sometimes here in the land of the $10.95 hamburger. Thanks again !!
