Last Summer, I had a terrific dinner at Mayflower Cafe. A place on my next-time-in-town list is Crechale's.

I strongly recommend Crechale's, as well -- one of my 2 all-time favorite restaurants. Crechale's is not to be missed. (I wish I had about 50 gallons of their Comeback dressing.)

Pelican Grove Grill is on the reservoir and it's a great sports bar with good burgers. Pig Skin has outstanding BBQ. Hickory Pit has good BBQ. Fanin Mart is good country food. Pigskin BBQ serves tamales from Hot Tamale Heaven in Greenville, MS. Take the Ridgeland exit off of I-55 just North Of Jackson at Exit 105 B. Go east and cross the tracks. When you get to the light they are in the shopping center across Highway 51. They also have the distinction of having the best plate lunch, best catfish, best ribs, and as I found out recently, the best pork chops available anywhere! Pig Skin BBQ @ 500 Highway 51 # J, Ridgeland, MS 601 - 988 - 1100. http://www.pigskinbbq.com/

Last time I went to Fanin Mart, the vegetables were canned and unseasoned. Maybe they have improved. I also question your rec of Hal and Mal's. It is a great music venue, but the food is extremely average. Let me add a couple: Sal and Phil's or Fat Tuesday for New Orleans style food. Bravo or Walkers Drive In for upscale dining. I would rate Hickory Pit over the other Barbeque places you mentioned. Crachele's is a clasic. Go for it!

Oops. Did not mean to leave out the Mayflower, my favorite place in town. Try the redfish, and don't fail to get a salad with comeback dressing.
