Jeni's Splendid pints coming to NYC...

The flavors mentioned in the article sound incredible (especially the Brown Butter Almond Brittle) but the $13 a pint price tag is too rich for my blood!

I've had Jeni's. (She started here and is still headquartered here.) It's very nice -- some of it. But I just will not pay that much money for ice cream.

I can buy it at Jungle Jim's, but it's $9.99 a pint. It's terrific for a splurge. However, her cookbook reveals a lot of her techniques and recipes, and I've managed to recreate a couple.

I've loved visiting Jeni's in the past, but I bought a pint at $9.99 in a Pittsburgh, and concluded that I don't love it more than much cheaper options.

That's a lot for a single serving, even if it is hand crafted.

I had Jeni's once.  The flavor I chose was Bourbon Pecan.  I love pecans but the one scoop I got had way too many pecans and almost no ice cream.  I think the price was $5.99.  Geeze, for 6 bucks I could have had several handfuls of pecans.  I still prefer Graeter's and Velvet.

As much as I enjoy Jeni's ice cream, I agree with everyone else on here, that it is just too much money for a pint.  But, no doubt many New Yorkers will pay it.  I will stick with my Graeter's for $5.99 a pint, although it is often on sale at $4.99.

It's $4.99 here.  You need to move to Columbus.

When Poverty Pete was here on Monday with his Santa Clara Vanguard we went to the Jeni's in Dublin, Ohio. I remember two of the flavors he had (I think he might have  had three different flavors) -- Saison with Sunflower Seeds & Golden Flax and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries. I had the Dark Chocolate because I didn't see Vanilla listed. I have no idea how his choices tasted. The Dark Chocolate was so intensely chocolate that I found it unpleasant. And frankly, at over ten bucks for a few scoops of ice cream I'll pass on future visits and stick with Velvet and Graeters. I prefer their ice creams, anyway.

As it turns out, Jeni's DOES have a scoop shop in NYC.  The prices don't seem too bad, though I don't know exactly how big they consider a scoop to be.  May have to swing by there very soon...

    Billyboy-
Lucky you!  Please report back about your experience when you go.

    Michael Hoffman-
Even though I have enjoyed their dark chocolate, I have found some of their fruit flavors to be too intense and did not enjoy them at all.

When I went to the flagship Columbus OH location with buffetbuster, Ralph Melton, Ice Cream Chick and Cousin Johnnie   few months back, I found the goat cheese with red cherries ice cream to be very mild. All the other flavors I had were not fruit flavored.
