Jen's Cafe (dumpling house) in London

Some of the best Chinese dumplings I've had are at a little hole in the wall in London's Chinatown. Jen's Cafe is absolutely wonderful, a real Roadfood kind of restaurant, it's very small, you often have to share tables or sit at a very crowded counter. There is a woman sitting in the window making the dumplings. She never seems to stop. The greens also were very, very good. I forgot what the other dish I had was. I ordered way too much.

Having lived in London on and off for twenty years, I can say honestly, the Chinese food in London is spectacular. Especially the Cantonese style of cooking.

Thanks so much for this recommendation!  We used to go to Cheun Cheng Ku for cart-service dim sum (and they had great soup on the carts, too, that you could have made to your specifications in terms of type of noodles and meat/poultry), but they abruptly closed last year, much to my dismay.  An alternative, not in Chinatown but near the Elephant & Castle tube station, is Dragon Castle (not cart service; order from a menu).

I actually prefer ordering vs carts.especially for steamed items. They seem fresher. less soggy. We ate at the Red Egg in NYC this past weekend.  all their dim sum is cooked to order. Much nicer than cart places I have been to in SFO and Vancouver as well as other East coast places.
