Jersey Shore?

My dad and I are going to go visit his friend who lives in Asbury Park. The last time I was there, was in 1999. I've been to Pete and Elda's which by the way is possibly the best thin crust pizza I've ever eaten. What are some good places to go for: Hot dogs? Burgers? Pizza? Snacks?

For some great hotdogs, try Max's on 2nd ave...they're often voted the BEST in Jersey...certainly near the top! That's in Long Branch...down the road from Asbury Park

If it sounds fun to you eat in a pitch perfect old fashioned drugstore/coffee shop go to Nagle's Apothecary Cafe in Ocean Grove.

Any good burger joints? I remember Pete & Eldas and we're going again. This will be my second large pizza totally consumed by me. I want my shirt darn it!

Whenever we're down the shore, we visit Vic's Pizza in Bradley Beach, about a 5-minute drive south of Asbury Park. The pizzas are great, but you gotta get the large Chopped Antipasto Salad. If you're willing to travel a little bit, Federici's pizza in Freehold is also outstanding. http://www.vicspizza.com/ http://www.federicis.com/

I see no one has responded yet with a burger recomendation. I've had a really good burger at The Porch (It's a casual bar & grill) on Hwy 71 in Spring Lake Heights. It also got some good reviews on the "NJ Burgers" thread in the Hamburger forum.

For a burger, try The Inkwell in Long Branch. I believe it's still on second avenue.

For Burgers I like Boom in Belmar. They are a bit pricey but excellent burgers. As for hot dogs, Max's and the Windmill are the local standards, not my favorite type of dog but popular none the less. Dave

For a great burger, go to Boom in Belmar - not far from Asbury. Go to Chowhound.com, go the Mid-Atlantic forum, and type Boom into the search box - the discussions are endless.

The Jersey Shore's not really a burger haven. I grew up there and the foods I miss most are Federici's pizza and Max's hot dogs, although I have absolutely nothing against Vic's and Pete and Elda's. But if you're down the Shore, you gotta hit up a diner, pretty much all of them have burgers. ;)

I don't get the love for Maruca's. I've eaten there several times at both the Seaside Hgts store and the franchised one in Brick. I thought it was ok, but there's better pizza near both stores. I agree with Jersey Diners. The Princess Maria in Wall, The Rainbow in Brick, The Ocean Bay in Point Pleasant, and Amy's Omelette House in Long Branch are all excellent diners near Asbury Park. I agree with the Porch in Spring Lake Heights for burgers. They are excellent. Dave
