This always reminds me of our vacations at the beach. We didn't want to use the pots and that was before microwave days. We would always pick up some Jiffy Pop at the store. Now, whenever, we rent movies, I like to get the tub with the popcorn in the bottom covered in plastic. I guess that is microwave answer to Jiffy Pop.

I remember both jiffypop and tv time. Tv time we had a lot, it was sold in the local grocer. me and dad were addicted to that stuff, especially the yellow goop! thanks for the memory.

That yellow goop is the beloved and hated coconut oil.

My wife and I have nearly stopped buying microwave popcorn and do Jiffy Pop. We have a gas burner. You just keep the kernels moving and when it's about 3/4 done let off the heat a little, the kernels will fininsh popping and it never burns. My buddies and I have done Jiffy Pop over a camp fire. Which is cool, because once the popping starts, get it out of the fire, because ours popped in about 3 seconds from 1st kernal to last. Microwave popcorn just doesn't compare now that we're back doing it on the stove. And lately, we thinking of getting an air popper to get even better popcorn.

I used a friends ONCE, I put butter on it and all the popcorn turned into soggy, tiny masses and tasted like I could only imagine soaking wet toliet paper.

I had an air popper as a kid. Popcorn is not supposed to be popcorn caked with artificial butter. Airpopped corn only gets soggy when you add too much butter. After popping the corn in a large bowl, sprinkle the popcorn with melted butter and salt as you turn over the popcorn. Don;t just pour a half cup of butter on top and expect it to be even. Believe me, if you know how to do popcorn correctly, it tastes much better than microwave popcorn. Unless you like caked on artificial flavoring (with "real" movie theatre butter flavoring).
