i promise--you will NOT catch me watching Conan!!!--i find him the most uneducated, childish, animated twisted Howdy Doody on drugs, that they have yet put on tv. No longer is the tradition that WAS the TONIGHT SHOW--with brilliant hosts Steve Allen--Jack Parr and Johnny Carson, with us--instead we will be barraged with the worlds oldest jr high smart alec.

I don't agree at all. I've been a Conan O'Brien fan for years, and while I'm going to miss Jay Leno, I'm looking forward to Conan's version of the Tonight Show. Of course neither Jay nor Conan is in Johnny Carson's league, but Carson was one of a kind.

Leno was actually pretty good. Letterman on Late Show on CBS smashed him to begin with, but Leno, ultimately, did a better job. His initial stand-up routines have been good, and he interacts well with guests - an aspect that he refined over time that was initally not very good. I used to LOVE Dave Letterman, but can hardly watch him now. His opening routine is rarely humorous, is soft, he doesn't connect well with the guests - which was never his m.o., but now that we see a softer Dave, this lack of connection is awkward, rather than edgy. I never warmed up to Conan after Letterman left and he took over. He's just not that likeable. And I did try. Some nights were better than others, like most shows, but something about conan has always irritated me. Where Leno, I find to be genuinely likeable.

Conan O'Brien was a GREAT writer...It's really too bad he decided to step in front of the camera. His commercials annoy the crap out of me, I cannot imagine sitting down to watch him on TV on purpose.

My late night viewing will not include Conan. I watched Carson a Lot, and Jay Leno quite a bit over the years. Last night's "beginning of the end" was pretty good, and I will try to watch the rest of this week. When Leno moves to the earlier time we will see how he fares in that format. Meantime I think my schedule will end with the 11 PM News !

Seriously, the average age in here . . must be somewhere around the average age of Rush Limbaugh's audience.

I miss Craig Kilbourn.

I used to be a big Letterman fan, but about four or five years ago, the quality of his show took a real nosedive. The writing on the show became stale and unfunny, and after about a year of suffering through that nonsense, I switched over to Leno's show and never looked back.

I am a big fan of Conan, although I do wonder how well his show will translate to a 11:30 time slot. I used to absolutely love David Letterman, but his show is practically unwatchable now, which hurts me to say. Jay Leno is just okay. But none of these guys hold a candle to Johnny Carson. I have had the pleasure of being in the studio audience for David, Jay and Conan and Conan's was by far the most fun. What a great time that was!

I certainly agree that Letterman used to be much better than he has been for the past couple of years or so. His show exhibits none of the edginess it was known for in the earlier years (Chris Eliot, Larry "Bud" Melman, etc.) Conan's show has shown signs of inventiveness but lacks endearing qualities. I liked Leno but his musical sidekick is less interesting than Paul Shafer. I miss Johnny and Ed.
