Jon Stewart's pizza rant says it all for NY

 
It is always amusing when a politician is oblivious to local customs and eating throughout this country. But it is really bad when a local leads you completely astray.

The whole thing seemed like a CF to me. They looked like they were in a gym as well. Crappy looking pizza and using plastic utensiles. Yikes.

i95, I think with the exception of Denino's in Staten Island, RF has all of them covered in the restaurant listings.
Stewart is one of my favorites and he is always so on point.  I was almost in tears from laughing so hard over this.  I saw the original piece the day she came to town and almost passed out when I saw where he took her for a "NY slice".  La Famigilia?  Really?  The slightly more refined cousin of Sbarro.

I just had to watch it again for the third time. Stewart's last line make the whole video worth it.

I'd never heard of Famous Famiglia when I saw the original clip.  I guess there weren't any when I lived in NY, so I thought it might have been a decent place.  I've been to three of the examples Stewart gave of better choices.
 
I just checked - the first one opened in 1986, by which time I was long gone.

Right on.......some people wouldn't know real pizza if it came up and bit them on their ***!!! "real New York pizza"...come on Saraoh.....Back to Alaska!!!!!

There is no doubt about it. At the final closing moments of the show, there was a snippet of Donald explaining why he used plastic utensils.  He doesn't like to eat the crust on pizza...

What's using a fork have to do with not eating the crust? You're supposed to "hold and fold" like a REAL New Yawker. When you get to the crust, you put it back on the plate. Right?

  Of course you are supposed to eat the folded bottom crust; it is what makes them unique. Trump claimed he doesn't like it.

 Wrong.  Especially if it has a darkened yeasty bubble on the-end-crust, it's the best part.  La Familigia sends out a pale pasty pie from a traditional commercial oven that looks great under the heat lamps. They do have large slices and in Times Square quantity -Trumps- quality.
  They are the best pizza  in NYC between Grand Central and the 42nd St. Bus Terminal

Stewart, I love him, he'll admit he's at his best when there's some low-hanging fruit to be picked. And I love that last line about America being great because it lets an Armenian Jewish kid pretend to be Italian!

Just for the record, I always eat the crust. For some, it's the only part worth eating. Not for me. But, the crust is the second best part of eating pizza.

I'm talking about the crust on the back edge of a slice. That's the part you'll see piled up on plates of non-crust eaters.

Perhaps one day she will spend $500,000 of the taxpayers' money to have a "date night" with Todd and go enjoy some Grimaldi's after a show!

I was in tears last night watching that clip.  Definitely the best segment he has ever done.

I am in total agreement with you. I find myself needing to watch the video at least once a day for a good laugh.
I've also sent the video to countless friends.

I like the show "The Office".
Michael Scott, the branch manager, has to go to New York for business. In one scene, he is on the street, heading for lunch, to the place that makes the best pizza in New York (and that he goes there everytime he is in NYC)
 
Then the camera shows a Sbarro.

I recalled that same scene as the Jon Stewart piece unfolded.  Hilarious.

1)  That claim is directly proportional to the number of their NYC locations.  By the same reasoning it could be said that McDonald's is NYC's favorite burger!
 
2)  Good Lord - they even have a location at the Northpark Mall in Park Cities (Dallas)!  Maybe Twinwillow will take a break between his shopping at Neiman-Marcus and Barney's, eat there, and give us a review.
 
3)  I wonder if they do what our Grimaldi's stores say they do and use NYC tap water when they mix their dough.
 
4)  As Northpark is near both President G.W. Bush's Dallas home and the site of his Presidential Library.  Perhaps one day he will take President Palin there for a "little taste of New York"!

Sorry to bust your bubble Jim but, I haven't stepped in NorthPark in over 10 years.
However, I do agree with your culinary opinion of Olivellas.
I also like Il Cano Rosso on Commerce Street in Deep Ellum. But, it's more Italian style than NYC style pizza.
