I saw the movie yesterday with my husband and absolutely loved it. The book was great, but I thought the movie even better. Has anyone else seen it? Post your thoughts and comments.

Sara Moulton, who was Julia's apprentace, protoge, and 25 year friend wrote up a review of the movie. She was very tentative going in, she thought they really nailed the essence of Julia. Speach, mannerisims, attitude. She noted how odd it is to go to a movie about someone you know exceptionally well, how Hollywood twists the truth to fit their story line, but ultimately she loved this movie and thought Julia herself would have too. I'll see if I can hunt down the link.

I have not seen it, but I understand that my good buddy, i95, was planning to catch an opening weekend showing. He had told me that he had been anticipating this movie's arrival for weeks....and bought tickets the moment they went on sale. Perhaps he will be along to post a review???

Next you'll be telling me that someone posing as "i95" not only picked you up on time yesterday in DC, was appearingly sober, wasn't wearing a would-be tablecloth for a shirt and even picked-up a check ( )! I'll find you, you i95 imposter! I'll find you!!!!!

I saw it couple days ago, just loved Meryl Streep, as always. I was a little disappointed in Stanley Turci, is it just me or did he play Paul Child a little too campy, like he's still in the same role from The Devil Wears Prada? I know it would have run the movie over, but would have liked to see how her tv show was created.

LindaW I saw the movie yesterday with my husband and absolutely loved it. The book was great, but I thought the movie even better. Has anyone else seen it? Post your thoughts and comments. Which movie, would be my question. I think it's compiled from two--Julia Child's memoir, and the book based on the blog, Julie and Julia. I read the latter--it was meh, about as good as blog writing can be. Nothing too thrilling. I just saw the movie, too, and it really makes me want to read Julia Child's memoirs.

I agree, I want to read her memoir next. I liked the movie..thought that Stanley Tucci was great, and that Julia and Paul had a beautiful marriage.

I picked up "My Life in France" at the airport a couple of weeks ago and it was a terrific read. I also read the Julie blog book, I thought she was a pretty funny writer, and am looking forward to seeing the movie.

Saw the movie this afternoon and thoroughly ejoyed it. But, if you are a male, be forewarned it is very much a movie written and directed by a woman, about women, and very feminine in its sensibilities -except that it displays a much better sense of humor than we usually find in "women's movies". Cheers, John

I just got back from an afternoon 4:45 PM viewing of it. It was an excellent movie and a lot better than the critics were giving it.

While the above is absolutely true, please also be forewarned that said movie also introduces a sexualized Julia Child to theater goers. You've been warned.

Too late! My tender sensibilities were already assaulted by the gross sexuality of the women in this movie. Cheers, John

See, I thought the sexuality was the best part. Go figure. I loved it, and I disagree with you about Stanley Tucci--he is so good at just being that person, whichever person he's being. Go rent 'Big Night'--you'll see what I mean.

What we have all learned from this movie is how important butter is.

I thought Meryl Streep was great as Julia Childs and Amy Adams was almost as good doing Meg Ryan

ynot, that's funny because we had the Amy vs. Meg discussion after the movie, and Amy came out way on top at least to us. If you see even a handful of things she's in--I'd throw out 'Drop Dead Gorgeous,' 'Charlie Wilson's War,' 'Junebug' and 'Enchanted'--Amy Adams is about three times the actress Meg Ryan is, and that's not to disparage Meg. I think Amy Adams could end up being a Meryl Streep-level shapeshifter some day.

Nancypalooza I think Amy Adams could end up being a Meryl Streep-level shapeshifter some day. Unless, of course, Isla Fisher proves successful in stealing her identity. BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
