Mr Mayor, this should make your trips to Cincinnati a wee bit shorter, assuming the Oakley store has everything the Fairfield store has...errr...except the monorail.

    Wow,

after all these years ya wonder what prompted an expansion? I'd always hoped he'd expand to Knoxville. But, that should make the drive a little shorter, plus isn't it a short hop from there on Norwood Lateral to 75N is I want to go to Faifield store?

If you are driving in from Knoxville, I would drive the 20 more miles to the original store. I am very lucky to live close enough to JJ's to do all my shopping there, and I can't say enough good things about it.
Things are in upheaval right now with all the expansion going on, but once all settles down, plan a whole day just to brouse. There will be a restaurant for lunch, and ice cream and coffee places for breaks. They also have all sorts of coffee, wine, beer tastings and samples to try different foods.
And if a group is coming they have tours too.
I'm spoiled having all this at my fingertips.

Tumbleweed, I am envious of you getting to shop at JJ's all the time. I grew up a mile from where he started his first fruit stand and just followed him wherever he went. I used to shop there all the time when I lived there and it was a great place to take kids as well. I miss it a bunch.

The one thing that he DOESN'T still have in use is the metal quonset hut, not only was it funky, but I loved listening if it was raining that day!
Maybe I'll drop a note in the Suggestion box, or his forum, and ask if it's still laying around somewhere. There's a memoriabilia wall in the original store of 'through the years'.

Sounds like another target for shopping for us when we head upriver. Tumbleweed I believe they are preserving a small piece of the "Quonset Hut" in the entrance area of the newly renovated and expanded Fairfield JJ's.
Tonight we will dine on grilled Swordfish done by the Mayor himself. The Swordfish was on sale last week at $2.99 a pound And appears to be in pretty good shape. My Czech visitor enjoyed our tour of the store before we put him on his flight for Prague last Thursday.

              UPDATE !!
In this weeks J J Ad they have listed SHINER BOCH BEER. That's a first. Ohio has not been a 'Shiner Available' state up to now. We had to wait for a trip to St Louis or to Tennessee to find it...now J J has it. This is a good thing! If you are a Shiner fan (I am) and you are a Jungle Jims fan (I am) then you now have one more reason to head up to Cincinnati !!
I am doing just that tomorrow (7/21) and will stop on my way home from Centerburg Ohio. Costco and Jungle Jim's in the same day, this could be a Foodie Overdose Day!!

I didn't get to make my "annual" trip to Cincy and JJs this year. I ws sooo looking forward to it. I even bought a new large ice chest just for the buttermilk.

Mayor, if I'd gone we could have met up on the 21th.

Reading from an article in the Hamilton OH newspaper sent to me---
JJ's is opening 9 new stores in Fairfield on Sept 15; Raymond's Hong Kong Cafe, Flaggs USA, Hallmark, Cici's pizza, Head to Toe Spa, Sport Clips hairstyling, Petsmart, Keva's Jewelers, and Bucks Dollar Superstore.
Also building an "event center" that will hold 1000 people.

The new store, according to the same article, is going to be in the old Kirk & Blum mfg. building. The center of the building has a 25 ton crane which will be a key figure in the decor and he is off in TX & OK looking for things to spruce up the atmosphere. Set to open in spring of 2007, he says if this is successful, he wants to "open up another format. I'm thinking about a whole new format for groceries."

Mike, I'll be meeting Al and Janet to do JJ's on Sunday, the 28th of August. (Right, Al?) You can still make your annual trip, just a bit later than you had planned.
