KATZ'S DELI TOMORROW !!

I'm taking the family to the Lower East Side's Katz's Deli for lunch tomorrow while in NYC. Short of inappropriately recreating the famous Meg Ryan scene in front of my wife and kids, anyone want me to raise an egg cream and toast you in spirit tomorrow?

Enjoy your meal! My wife and I just got back from Harold's Deli in Parsippany New Jersey. We had the corned beef sandwich, we split it because it was so huge! One of these days we will get to Katz's ENJOY !

Is that a current salami sign? It looks like they dust it off for each new war.

If you'll change your mind and do the "Meg Ryan," I'll hop on the subway and join you...won't sit at the same booth, of course. But, I'll be lurking nearby.

    Offered as a post-weekend update:

After previously knoshing at both the Carnegie and Stage dellys, without question, Katz's Deli is the real deal. What a place and what food!! Superb pastrami. Tops!!

BTW, on another NYC food-related matter, a pizza place recommended on this site and located in the Times Square area is no more. Teatro Pizza on West 44th Street has closed. While this is not likely news to the Big Apple readers to this thread it was certainly news to me as their famed spaghetti and chicken parmesan pizzas were amazing.

    Rest well, Teatro !!

Katz's deli (www.homedelivery.com/katz.html) has been around since 1888 so you know they must be doing something right. It's one of those places you have to visit if you're ever in NYC. Another deli that is worth visiting is the 2nd Avenue Deli at 156 Second Ave. by 10th street.

I have some friends who went up to New York for the World Premiere of The Two Towers last winter. They stood out in the snow with lots of other fans and shrieked like schoolkids at the celebrities as they went in.

The next day, they'd made plans to all meet up for lunch at Katz's, since Elijah Wood (Frodo) had recently had his picture taken there for their wall. As they were going in, who should walk out but Peter Jackson (the director of the Lord of the Rings movies) and Richard Taylor (the head of Special Make-Up, Creatures, Armour & Miniatures at WETA Workshop). They chatted for a minute, amazed at their good fortune, and as Peter and Richard left, the fans noticed that Peter Jackson was wearing the same old jacket he was wearing in all the "making of LOTR" specials, and it had a rip in it, patched up with tape. Man's a multi-millionaire and has wears an old jacket repaired with tape. Sheesh.
