I saw the add also. I will defer my comments until I hear from others. No. I have not tried it.

I think chipotle may be the most over-rated and over-used flavor in a very long time. It seems like everything is chipotle this or chipotle that. Let's face it, chipotle really isn't that great of a flavor.

KFC hasn't figured out how to make a decent Buffalo-style chicken yet-despite all the various campaigns to launch different "hot" wing variations. No reason to believe this chipotle thing is going to be any better. QFan Bonita Springs, FL

The chipotle crispy is not too bad, it has a nice light spice.

I don't know if I'd call it "light spice" - I'd say "almost non-existent spice" myself after having tried it last week. It's like the old "extra crispy" coating that has less flavor than the original recipe BUT it's crispy and crunch to mask the lack of flavor. As the OP mentioned "always disappointed"...I'll stick with the original recipe or just go to Popeye's

I tried it last night.....I bought a 8 piece box of just chicken, mixed with normal Extra Crispy and the new Chipotle Extra Crispy. It was hard to tell the diference between the two. The coating was exactly like the normal Extra Crispy, and had very little heat or chipotle flavor. For Fast Food Chicken I'll stick with Popeyes Spicy......

After reading the comments here, I stopped at my local KFC to try a couple of pieces. Like others, I couldn't tell much difference between the chipotle flavor and the crispy fried chicken, except that the chipotle flavor had a little more heat to it. But, on balance, the two were almost indistinguishable.

OK, We tried the new flavor KFC last night. It was ok..Not great by a long shot. The smoke flavor was VERY MILD to say the least. In order of preference I would rate them like this. 1. Popeye's Spicy 2. Popeye's Mild 3. KFC Original 4. KFC Chipotle 5. KFC Extra-Crispy There are several others I might select over these, but this is what is available within a reasonable distance for us. The ratings are based on FRESH HOT Chicken at time of purchase...Any thing sitting for more than a few minutes changes the rules and probably the rating !!

I traveled to KFC last evening. I got the buffet because I wanted several choices. The newest chicken was not on the buffet and I ask why. I was informed that if I wanted it, I would have to order off the menu. Their buffet was very good though with lots of good veggies but I was dissapointed that the chipolte was not available. Paul E. Why can't KFC use the 11 herb and spices in an extra crispy batter? The original chicken has soggy skin and the extra crispy has a bland taste.

Personally I think KFC has gone to hell in a handbasket......chicken is hugely overpriced, and the last time we got the extra crispy, it was barely crispy! The chicken strips are pretty darn good though........

The chicken strips are pretty darn good though........ My days of eating KFC go way back before they actually started having KFC restaurants. In Lexington, KY where I was born and raised, the first place to get KY Fried Chicken was the Starlite Drive-in on Nicholasville Road. Shortly after that, they opened up a store on Romany Road. I think KFC started its downhill slide in 1971 when John Y. Brown sold it to Hublein. After Brown bought it from Sanders, they did a nice job of keeping the product on the level we expected. When Hublein got it, the size of the pieces went down, the quality went down, and the prices went up. I think the growth of KFC was spurred by the fact that a KFC franchise was the most coveted of all the ff companies. In Hublein's hands, then RJ Reynolds, then PepsiCo (as part of Tricon), it grew like crazy even though the quality and value sank.

I get KFC for take out only, and for take out the original gets mushy (and even worse for leftovers) I use our convection oven to crisp it up when I get home, but would be nicer if the extra crispy were tastier. Would also be nice if we still had Popeyes in Richmond. I guess they have some over on the east side and maybe close to downtown, but in the west end , they are no more. Maybe I will try the chipotle stuff, and maybe sprinkle on a little paprika and chili powder for good measure

I used to love the crispy spicy that was made back in the early 90's. I was hoping this new flavor might be good also. Al didn't think so. It might vary by location though. Anyone know who makes the hot sauce they give away in those little packets. It is REAL good I think. Kinda like Louisiana Hot Sauce but with an extra kick of some kind. Joe

Around here there are so many local places that have good fried or broasted chicken I dont even bother with KFC. Most use the Broaster method but some use Henny Penny. Far better than KFC.

Do you think Popeye's spicy chicken gets spicier the closer you get to New Orleans or has their recipe just whimped out over corporate time? I live in FL.. I guess they don't want to off the retirees with too much spice. Pretty bland. Man, it would make your head sweat and your throat tingle back in the mid 70's in NOLA. I keep seeing posts about hot pan-fried chicken in KY and TN. Never been. Does that mean spicy hot? Is pan-fried chicken better than deep-fried? KFC is close to home so I must admit I will get some Original from time to time. I still like it after all these years.
